A handful of favorite works from my visit to the @artinstitutechi.bsky.social yesterday.

#art #artsky #museums #JamesMcNeillWhistler #GeorgiaOkeeffe #tiffany
A small painting by James McNeill Whistler called "Nocturne Blue & Gold: Southhampton Water," featuring a moonlit scene with subtle boat shapes on the water and a faint horizon line. A painting by Georgia O'Keeffe called "The Shelton with Sunspots, N.Y." featuring a large black skyscraper in a cloudy mist surrounded by yellow, orange and red dots. A painting by James McNeill Whistler called " Violet and Silver - The Deep Sea," featuring a vivid blue seascape with white puffy clouds in the sky. A Tiffany stained glass lamp with dragonflies around the edge of the lampshade with a decorative metal base that is organic in nature.

Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

The #Chicago Cultural Center doesn't just have one amazing glass dome. There's two! This is the Preston Bradley Hall #Tiffany Dome and the adjacent entryway. Just incredible. #architecture
A huge glass dome that is predominantly blue with a floral looking motif at the center. The coffered ceiling in the entryway to the dome has incredible green and brown mosaics lining the wall with elegant cast iron lights hanging from the ceiling. One of the hanging pendant lights, which appears to be cast iron and have a tremendous amount of fine detail.

The incredible Rotunda & Dome at the Grand Army of the Republic Hall (1897) inside the #Chicago Cultural Center, which use to be a library. Simply magnificent.
A wide angle view of the marble lined room and circular dome. A detail of the stained glass dome, featuring flowers and other delicate design work in pastel colors.

I could wander around Chicago looking just at architecture for 2-3 days and be perfectly happy.

Lighting #design was a missed career opportunity. I love this gorgeous #ArtDeco entry sconce from 1928 at 333 N. Michigan Ave. in #Chicago. It appears to be around 4 ft. tall!
A black and white light fixture with large vertical opaque glass pieces that narrow in 3 stages until it reaches the bottom. The fixture also has some delicate filigree.

A gripping storyline driven by the need to escape an environmental apocalypse that tackles the dynamics of human nature and family bonds in extreme circumstances. I became absorbed in the struggles of the characters.

I paid a visit to the #LurieGarden by #PietOudolf, one of my favorite #garden #designers. It's still looking like spring, and I even found a very tame bunny gorging on all the plants.
In the foreground a garden is dotted with colorful perennial bulbs. Then in the distance a large hedge lines the garden and the Chicago skyline looks over the scene.

This is a really great summary of federal funding of the arts in the U.S. from @theconversation.com. So much can be learned from the past to naviagate our future.

With federal funding in question, artists can navigate a perilous future by looking to the past
Because the US government has rarely offered full-throated support for the arts, there’s a long tradition of innovation, adaptation and collective action among American artists.

An architects nightmare, but I think these murals are fantastic. There is so much potential for more this throughout the U.S.

#Indianapolis is doing a good job planting trees downtown, but the surrounding neighborhoods need more attention!

Only 25% of #Indianapolis has tree cover, and that's down -0.9%
brianstechschulte.com
#Indianapolis desperately needs to invest in tree cover looking at research on @washingtonpost.com. More trees will help people cope with increasing temperatures.
