I have a tendency to create protagonists with something "broken" about them because I believe the way we can be drawn to darker emotions and how, through our connections with the people we love, we can overcome that is both very relatable to everyone and also very inspirational

The way hate and revenge can hollow a person out, that even when you are close to achieving those goals, how empty it can leave you along with how that impacts lives around you, whether it's old friends or new. And the struggles of moving on after setting those desires aside.

for example; aurora tackles themes of femininity, motherhood, womanhood, (in some cases) religion. For me when i make decisions as small as gender it can completely alter how I write a character!!
