The Last Explorer shows a crushed aluminum can in the lower left, torn open like a metallic flower. Its jagged edges shine with vivid hues—blue, orange, purple, and gold—like it’s been scorched or transformed. The inside glows with warm copper tones. The Scream is an image with a circle of light with two reflections that look like eyes on a half silver and half whispy deep blue background. Under the eyes where a mouth would be is an exploding water jet and crater from a drop of water forms a screaming shaped mouth.

It appears as streaking ball inside a metallic shell in a black void. Firey blurred trails that appear as flames, trail behind it. It stretches from the right upper corner to almost 2/3rds of the frame diagonally towards the left corner of the image. It was created by hardening a couple aluminum foil balls, I ran through every dryer cycle for about 4 months. Adding layer and layer to the balls. From there the process was to use the spheres in a variety of photos. The trail was, dyed and dried hot glue, streaks. It took about 5 months to get to this particular image. I think. I’ll name it, Vibrancy Is A State Of Mind.

Hahaha. We didn’t have a great relationship. His father was a POW in WWII in Japan. He also worked out in mercury. He was even more badass. lol.

The trombone is awesome!! My step dad played the trombone on the strip when all the lounge acts had live orchestras. He became a music teacher when the strip went to tracks. He used to play it to annoy and irritate me awake sometimes. Sometimes lol he’d follow me around taunting me with it.

In the center of them is Little Tim, a little person who manned the elevator at the once world famous nightclub at the Hard Rock Las Vegas, Body English. Tim is smoking, he was a chain smoker and he’s wearing a tux and Santa hat. The photo was taken as a promotional series for a show at the hotel at the time, Beacher’s Madhouse. I titled it “Merry F’in Christmas” because that’s what came to mind during the session.

One of my #FavoriteThings is birds and one of my favorite birds are pigeons. They clean up after us. Without them the litter would be overwhelming. They carry communications for us. Where we are, pigeons are and we hate them for it.

From 2022 a pigeon feather. It took several days of soaking with food coloring to dye the feather. I then cleaned the center. The pigeon is hated. Yet it eats our trash, our litter and it does tasks for us. But, they’re viewed as ugly and dirty and dumb. Imagine if pigeons were rainbow colored this feather is a mix of blue, purple, yellow, orange, green and black, white and gray.

A brown pelican flies against an all white cloudy sky making the pelican look as if it was in a high key fashion portrait. The pelican is tho the far right and gliding on its enormous wings. It was raining. More accurately it was misting not raining. A few wing feathers on the pelican can be seen as an iridescent yellow brown. It appears to missing whole feathers and chunks of feathers.

A bunch of wooden stick matches explode in orange, red, yellow, blue, pink and purple flames against a black background. The soft light swirls around the blackened match heads, fractions of seconds in time. Timing and white balance creates the magical rainbow of colors and shutter speed and aperture created the depth and motion of the explosion. Setting the camera within inches of the matches, I used my left hand to ignite them with a long lighter and I used my right hand to plunge the shutter release as the chain reaction occurred. This project used several thousand matches over weeks of daily shoots. 4-5 hours a shoot to set up, focus and photograph something so common we never watch, in awe. This is but one of the many images I created during this campaign. I even made a Spotify playlist called Matches which was the soundtrack to the series.
