Hi new followers 👋, welcome, this account is a weird mix of tangents on #hacking #history and current events involving large, or particularly interesting, hacks, how the media looks at hacking and just what is going on with hacktivism.

I had never heard of this case before, a dev business called Logisticon dialled into Revlon systems and disabled software they had written after a dispute over contractual payments for the software.

Tiny Software Firm Cripples Giant Revlon in Pay Dispute
A small software firm, using a high-tech guerrilla tactic to "repossess" its product from Revlon Inc. for non-payment, briefly crippled the cosmetic giant with a midnight phone call.

In 2019, TikTok admitted to suppressing the content of fat, disabled, and queer users. In 2020 they claim a “glitch” caused the suppression of George Floyd content.

Sora exists to manufacture and disseminate racism, misogyny, and misogynoir at scale.

These systems are operating as intended.

I know the marketing blitz and cultural narrative and intense propaganda, BUT what happened to being just baseline skeptical of information black boxes and things sounding too good to be true? I'm gullible as hell, but even I can clock something this suspicious.

It is so wild to see all the fundamental lessons of digital information seeking, retrieval, consumption, production, and dissemination just...get thrown out the window, seemingly out of the blue, by absolutely everyone, but especially people that I -KNOW- know better.
It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

a *gigantic* release at this early hour: 20 thousand unredacted emails from Epstein's Yahoo email (by request only/for journalists and researchers).

these are from the same trove that Bloomberg has been going through — not the Congress-released ones.

keeping eyes peeled for the reporting :)

Snitches are how 99% of FBI cases work, or someone talking when they shouldn't. It's almost never breaking encryption.

So, keep using signal because its the best option we have. Do not switch to telegram which is DEMONSTRABLY less secure.

This story doesn’t in any way indicate that Signal is broken. This was a big signal group with open membership. Reading between the lines of the story this was 99% chance a snitch or undercover agent or cellebrite (1% chance someone’s phone got compromised)
