Hi new followers 👋, welcome, this account is a weird mix of tangents on #hacking #history and current events involving large, or particularly interesting, hacks, how the media looks at hacking and just what is going on with hacktivism.

At the very least the dawn of pay to play blue check “verification” has drastically changed the calculus for who can expect their voice or their opinions to be heard over there.

I confess I haven’t read the report referenced but I read your article, there seems to be no mention of bots or AI driven spam on twitter (or here for that matter). Was the report operating under the assumption that twitter is still a place largely driven by “real” organic discourse?

In 1996, Brewster Kahle wrote "Preserving the Internet" for Scientific American. Nearly 30 years later, it’s striking how many of his predictions about digital preservation came true—and how many challenges remain.

Let’s compare 1996 vs 2025 🧵
Page from March 1997 Scientific American featuring Brewster Kahle’s article 'Preserving the Internet.' Text describes the Internet Archive’s mission to save digital information. Includes a photo of a Smithsonian exhibit with 1996 U.S. election web memorabilia.

Tron was about a guy who had his livelihood and life’s work stolen from him by an evil corporation run by a man who is under the influence of a malicious artificial intelligence. No awkward parallels here at all.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

UK in particular seems to be a hotbed for young UK hackers attacking UK companies with poor opsec and getting picked up shortly after, though we will have to wait for trials to see the details.

The real reason why Bluesky is failing so bad at moderation is simply because they're scared of congressional investigations by Republicans and having to spend millions on lawyers they they don't have to defend against it. It's all political and about self preservation.

And for what benefit? The video being created is slop and the companies enabling it all are burning money to make it all possible, it is just absolute stupidity from top to bottom.

If generative AI is so intuitive and easy to use why are we being encouraged to “learn” it? Everything said about it by AI hypers is just so contradictory and nonsensical.
