Hi new followers 👋, welcome, this account is a weird mix of tangents on #hacking #history and current events involving large, or particularly interesting, hacks, how the media looks at hacking and just what is going on with hacktivism.

Anti Iranian government hacktivists Edaalate Ali have resurfaced after total silence during the Iranian Internet blackout. Have found the auto-translation of their long post on Telegram hard to parse though.

Again, it's reprehensible that none of the press reports on the power outage in Venezuela even bother to mention that we bombed the sh*t out of two substations. I feel like I'm going crazy.

Russians on Telegram discussing #Iran seem unusually bleak today, even by Russian standards. None of the various comments I’ve seen express much confidence in the Iranian regime to last and believe a US attack is imminent in the next 12 - 24 hours.

Why are the identities of government employees, funded by U.S. taxpayer money, not known in the first place?
A Department of Homeland Security whistleblower has released the identities of about 4,500 ICE and Border Patrol employees Tuesday in what has been called potentially the largest agency data breach for the department.

Everyone is just more isolated these days.
I talked to the Gen Z developer behind China's trendiest mobile app this week: 死了么 (Are You Dead Yet). The app only has one function: it checks in with you every day to make sure you are not dead. And if you don't respond, it lets your emergency contact know.
China’s Hottest App Is a Daily Test of Whether You're Still Alive
Are You Dead Yet soared to the top of app store charts and became a magnet for investors. In an exclusive interview with WIRED, one of its creators says they’re changing the name anyway.

Fucking hell. This is potentially twice the higher end estimates of the massacre and resulting deaths around Tiananmen Square.

If your family member was posting stuff like this online about a chatbot you’d be in the family group chat talking about an intervention, or at the very least wondering if you had missed some warning signs.

It seems that OldGremlins ransomware group was, if the authorities in Russia have the right person, at least partially made up of Russians within #Russia targeting Russian companies and organisations. Pretty damn rare in the modern era of big game hunting #ransomware.

Governments and AI vendors worldwide - we’re committed to Responsible and Safe AI, we’ve developed extensive legislation.

Elon Musk starts a deepfake women undressing tool, same people: oh well 🤷‍♀️ what can you do. It’s Elon.
“Worlds richest man cackles as he runs social media platform where anyone can undress women who dare to post photos of themselves” sounds like a plot from an episode of some scifi anthology series from the early 2010s.

It isn’t lost on me that Musk, supposedly this champion of free speech online, has handed a case so clearly egregious and indicative of the detachment from reality that big tech companies are gripped with to people who want to regulate the hell out of the internet. It is practically perfect for it.

I think a lot about how what Gen Z really seems to love online is short whimsical, authentic videos of people up to cool stuff or video of amusing chance occurrences and how generative AI has become a sewage pipe pumping fake and contrived nonsense on to every platform to destroy that source of fun.

I find it impossible to think that ransomware gangs won’t make use of real world violence in a similar way to extort, applying extra pressure to specific corporate executives or corporate offices themselves.
