Higher ed workers at The New School are rejecting the admin's strategies of divide and conquer to mount a unified challenge to austerity.

In this AAUP TV episode, Laura Liu of AAUP-TNS talks about how faculty, students & staff come together despite weaponized employment contracts that divide them.

This is basically EVERY university in the Anglophone world.
They claim financial exigency, but then turn down $4 million pledges to keep the PhD programs open and disregard financial analyses that point to the real problem—bad real estate deals, spending on consultants, and their own salaries 2/2

Open Letter on The New School’s “Restructuring” Plans - Notes - e-flux
Signed by hundreds of faculty, students, and supporters, this letter refutes the claim that a radical “restructuring” of the The New School for Social Research is financially necessary.

When higher ed is under attack by the twin forces of authoritarianism & austerity, institutions like the New School that have historically been bulwarks of critical education & anti-fascism should be strengthened rather than destroyed. What an utter failure of leadership & imagination

These should be the core values of any place devoted to education imho
In 2009 as today, the leadership of The New School fails to live up to its founding values

this is fucking insane
According to a new court filing, the Trump administration has a six-page list of banned words that Head Start locations are forbidden from using when describing their programs.
Among the censored words: "disability," "race," "women," "trauma," "Gulf of Mexico." Short thread with the full list. 🧵

The extreme, ideologically-driven, fast, furious, economically reckless decisions being made by New School president & provost are NOT the simple consequence of economic need. they're a malicious disaster and must be stopped... an assault on critical thought.

Against all the horrors and downsides of the neoliberal age, one counterweight was the steady global fall in child mortality rates. But now, catalysed by the rapid, surprise and malicious removal of US support for medicines and food aid, that trend too is headed into reverse. A moral catastrophe
Almost a quarter of a million more children are projected to die in 2025 than in 2024, for the first time in this century--despite the fact that these deaths are almost entirely preventable.

Amazing to see that our new HR policy on discrimination and harassment concedes that "alienation, isolation" do in fact constitute a "poisoned work environment."

Unclear how any work can now be done without the abolition of capitalism.
