Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada wasn’t even at the protest — his wife was — but prosecutors are pressuring him into giving up his permanent resident status because he allegedly moved a box of zines the day after. Now that he’s going to trial, he’s looking at decades behind bars and deportation.

Abolish ICE/DHC. For those hoping for reforms - especially better training, better staffing of detention centers, more oversight, etc. - I offer this book of mine, co-written with Nancy Heitzeg (@naheitzeg.bsky.social), "Carceral Con: The Deceptive Terrain of Criminal Justice Reform."

If this is where elected dems are at, we communists really gotta step up our game.
Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”
House Democrat Says Abolishing ICE Isn’t Enough — DHS Must Go, Too
“The problem isn’t ‘training.’ DHS was built to violate our rights,” said Rep. Delia C. Ramirez.

This part of his quote is obviously and rightfully getting the headlines but the end of the clip is just as important:

"Saying everything that's on my mind would have a cost that's too great for me right now...I know I'm a foreigner and I am concerned, for sure."
"Every day, I wake up and see the news and I'm horrified. I think it is crazy that some people make it sound like it's acceptable, like the murder of civilians is acceptable." - Victor Wembanyama says about the killings in Minnesota

If you want to learn about the viciously racist history of Border Patrol, I recommend Kelly Lytle Hernandez's "Migra!" It's really fascinating because Hernandez looks at the class and race implications of border patrol and who joined.

Same in Los Angeles and I’m sure this is true across states with extensive 287g agreements, especially Texas and Florida.
A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all.

Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

I haven’t seen much on bsky, but my hometown Claremont Police Department (LA County) killed a young man in November, Diego Rios. The bodycam and dashcam footage got released last week. It’s just as disturbing as Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Cops kill, with or without bodycams.

Murphy repeatedly bragged in public that "we followed Republicans' instructions to the letter" on drafting the far right immigration bill.
Chris Murphy helped draft one of the most fascist immigration bills in the history of the United States.

That he appears to be the Democrat lead on what to do about ICE is immensely disturbing.
The Democrats’ Hard-Right Turn on Immigration Is a Disaster in Every Way
It’s amoral. It’s desperate. It’s politically reckless. It’s wrong no matter how you look at it.

"Return CBP to the border"
Now that you have seen what CBP does, why is it okay to have them on the US-Mexico or US-Canada border? Some people say they want "a controlled border" but at what cost to life?

When you give bad people bodycams, they don't become good people. Instead, we see bad people performing for the bodycams before doing the bad thing anyway.

They say "stop resisting" to compliant people before escalating to violence. The "stop resisting" absolves them in the eyes of their overseers.

This is another reason why it’s more apt to say ICE is a return to pre civil rights policing, not a departure from policing itself. Post 60s the cops learned that PR was perhaps the most important part of preserving impunity. Now ICE is fucking up the bag.

This is true of all organizing, and many of the most talented and effective organizers rarely discuss the details of their own work in public, instead choosing to amplify the work of others.

People who are loud and self-aggrandizing exploit the quiet logistics work + often make it more difficult.
The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.
