It's either. You can buy it as a one off or a sub. It's better to do this during black Friday, or wait for a B&H sale which happens several times a year. Another cheaper option is On1, although I've never been impressed with it. Probably worth trialling a few?

Capture One is my go to. For me it produces the best images, and I like its workflow. I do use Lightroom as well, mainly for the mobile workflow. Lightroom is almost as good, and it used to be my main app. The thing Affinity lacks is catalog management, unless they've added it recently?
