From a WIP I can't seem to ever finish. 😵‍💫
He harrumphed and marched up the stairs, and I closed and locked the door, trembling. Not only did I have to deal with unpleasant people out in the streets, but also in my own building. Why didn't the ritual’s protection keep Ned out? Was he not deemed a danger? How did it even work? Shaking off my nerves, I crawled into my sleeping bag. The tenants upstairs stopped their cacophony, and I let out a sigh of relief. Maybe having a Ned around wasn't so bad, just as long as he didn't harass me.

Despite the winter cold (or perhaps because of it) the squirrels are all out to grab some birdseed.
The little red squirrels, normally quite aggressive, are smart enough not to push their luck when food is scarce.

Then, suddenly, she froze in the night sky, the way the female pori had halted her dive when she'd opened her eyes and lashed out with her dagger. Her heart leaped into her mouth; her lips parted as if to let it fly out of her body. Fly out of her body to go after her human boy. The male had let go of the boy—he let him go!—and was speeding towards her, his iron sword a streak of black smoke in the moonlight. He wanted his hands free to fight her so he'd dropped the boy. The human was expendable. Rage spurred her into action and she dove towards the boy, unsure if she'd be able to rescue him in the same way twice. This time, she had a night pori on her tail, getting closer and closer, and another watching from afar.
