People have this weird desire to treat entertainment like echo chambers. But instead of being committed to said chamber they treat it like a motel room they'll leave the next day.

A lot of those people don't have actual values. They just want to feel like they do.

I already have the news and social media telling me how awful the world is.

Commentary is fine but if that's all you're offering then I'm out. There needs to be more substance than keeping us anxious, depressed, angry and hating each other.

People don't lack "critical thinking" just because they're tired of constant commentary. "Why are we being seen as pretentious for wanting to look deeper?" No. You're pretentious because you make it seem like you're smarter than others for doing so and insult others intelligence for wanting fun

I get that, but with if everyone is screaming in a room then it'll get filled with carbon dioxide eventually. There are other ways to vent these issues without being so constantly preachy.

It's all just so spoon fed. Commentary works when you give the audience the opportunity to put the pieces together or come to their own conclusion. "But media literacy is dead!!" maybe that's because for over a decade you've been just spoon feeding morals to the audience?

Commentary is important but I also want to be able to relax at some point. Not everything should be reminding me of how awful the world is. I don't need Futurama talking about Covid, Gumball complaining about social media or Animaniacs using bunnies to talk about gun control

A problem with so many cartoon revivals is that they notice that the originals had some commentary and they make it their entire identity. Even though when you look back the commentary was only a few jokes and maybe an episode or two.
