It’s out! I’m deeply proud and grateful for this book — especially for the chance to collaborate with such brilliant & bold minds.

Here’s to hoping its ideas spark fresh conversations and inspire meaningful change in our field. #economics #eurocentrism #decolonisation

Economics obscures or is oblivious to the politics embedded in theorization itself. In this book, @devikadutt.bsky.social, @cacrisalves.bsky.social, @surbhikesar.bsky.social & @ingridhk.bsky.social return political questions to the heart of economic theorizing.

This article is spot on about the UK's descent into anti-trans hysteria. In 8 years, they went from the conservatives trying to make it easier for trans folks to self attest gender to a liberal government implementing a bathroom ban by fiat.

Britain’s Bathroom Ban
The UK has gone from a bathroom ban being unthinkable to a Labour government implementing an extraordinarily authoritarian one—without a vote.

Last was "Congo" by David Van Reybrouck. This book provides a sweeping analysis of the DRC's history, and reading this book in 2025 with a renewed Rwandan invasion is as edifying as it is depressing. Highly recommend

Don’t compromise, Jo. AI won’t reach its full potential under the current Big Tech regime, plus no meaningful regulation & unchecked political influence. The issue isn’t just how AI is used, but who controls it and for what gain. It’s bad news all along. Yeah. it clears your data, but at what cost?

The other side is, of course - of course! - the companies making LLMs are not doing so with the goal of more easily sharing the material that people have made freely available on the web. They are doing so with the goal of enclosing it - converting the products of free human activity to commodities.

The changes in portion sizes, whether eating out or buying from supermarkets, are insane. It’s outrageous how much smaller things have gotten. Is there any regulation around this? @harrywallop.co.uk

Instead of judging individuals by what they contribute to society, why not judge society by what it contributes to individuals? Like, y'know, civilized people would.

Dehumanisation as policy.
It ignores people's actual lives and experiences in favour of some sick idea that migrants are just resources to be used and discarded at will.
It is incredible how Labour has become, in practice, the most anti-immigration government in decades.
