I signed up to be a paid supporter of @51st.news last week. With the news of the Post layoffs, I'm even more glad that I did.
The Post layoffs are an incalculable loss for local journalism, and one that we won't recover from anytime soon. But as billionaires destroy beloved institutions, it’s our job to build new ones. The @51st.news can't fill this void alone, but I think we owe it to DC to try.

It appears several clergy were just arrested as they staged an anti-ICE protest in the Russell Rotunda in the U.S. Senate office building.

A number of faith leaders, who were in town urging Senators to vote against additional ICE funding, were led away by police: www.facebook.com/FIAnational/...

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

I brought my dog home 11 years ago today. Since then I've barely gotten out of bed without his encouragement. He deserves all the praise just for that.

UPDATE: Reached out to the Rev. Hannah Kardon, a United Methodist minister who was there that day and has been active in religious demonstrations at Broadview.

“They are making it clear that they are scared of prayer … it speaks the truth that what they are doing in that building is evil.”

Some days the only way I can write a sermon is to set a timer for an hour and determine that I will only write, no editing, so I will have at least the vast majority of a sermon to revise at the end of the hour.
