L.A. announced that it has arrested a suspected arsonist for January's Palisades Fire. But that's changed little for residents, and it hasn't changed how much I miss my loved one who died in the fire. My latest for @theatlantic.com: www.theatlantic.com/science/2025...
L.A. Might Finally Know Who Started the Palisades Fire
But it still doesn’t feel like closure.

From less expensive and further away seats I’m going to try to embody the lived experience of someone who pays $700 each for two third-row seats in a Broadway theater without the first inkling of what the play is about

I’m seeing Godot on Friday and now the entire time I’m gonna be imagining this guy waiting for the show tunes to start

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

lol he shoulda taken a job as a position coach somewhere that he could have his boat and just coached em up
amandamull.bsky.social
He could have just retired to hang out with his girlfriend but somehow he got himself into a fiasco that has put “maybe it really was all Tom Brady and he was never that good” on the board in a serious way. Hustling backwards!
amandamull.bsky.social
Yeah he should have at least gone to somewhere weird to do this! That would have been interesting at least.

Are you saying that being an NFL knower doesn’t automatically make you even better at understanding college football than college football people?
amandamull.bsky.social
The thread has a lotta good details but you didn’t have to be a genius to know that this guy would not have a lot of patience with teenagers or with the very strange bureaucracy of college football, and then he got rid of the people who knew how to do CFB and hired a bunch of NFL washouts!
amandamull.bsky.social
Who could have seen this coming except pretty much everyone who knows anything about college football

a fortunate quirk is that doing food and medical support for impoverished children, foreign and domestic, *also* is about the biggest bang it is possible to get for our buck.

so you can analyze aid on a moral basis or a realpolitik basis and you get the same answer: we should do it

Here's the thing. I am a lucky person and pay a fair bit in taxes. I can think of no better use for my tax dollars than feeding children, because I think all people are equally deserving of basic humanity.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
