It was never reported by regular news outlets as far as I know. I saw it in a youtube short or something.
7 million, and I feel like I know what they’re thinking: “oh it’s only 1 million more than what we did in the 1930’s and 40’s. Now with modern technology, that extra million shouldn’t be a problem.”
I appreciate you not lumping us all together. Many do, and I can’t really blame them. Can’t believe what’s happening here.
I’ll bet it’s awesome! Gonna have to search for some and pick some up. And find some basswood that tolerates the heat here.
We have clover honey in the area too, and I’m not sure what to think of it. I feel like it’s a gamey/herby flavor but people who know more than I do on the subject say no lol
Ha ha! That’s awesome. One that beekeepers love around here is Vitex, and I have been reluctant to plant them even though they’re huge nectar producers. They’re considered invasive as well, but they are nice looking and bloom through most of the spring and summer. Ugh, no native equivalent too!
Awesome! And I see what we call a Basswood tree is called Linden in your area. I know in Appalachia, basswood is a major nectar producer, and the honey is similar in color to yours. Apparently it’s delicious with a spice to it almost
So cool! Damn, I looked up knapweed and here in this area it’s considered invasive. Apparently it will “dominate” everything else if not managed ha ha! And no native equivalent according to this article.

Do you know what your main nectar source is in your area? I ask because I hope to find something similar that can grow in 9a/9b (just miserable heat)
Wow yours is so light in comparison. I wish you were near so we could do a trade! I believe most of the forage is from mesquite and yaupon holly, but there’s also a considerable Texas wildflower bloom. This year wasn’t that great, but this hive worked so hard! They have those workhorse genes lol
Awesome thank you!!! Gonna save this one too!
That sounds friggin’ amazing. Now I am officially hungry!
And if you’re a caffeine addict like me, Yaupon is the only plant native to the US that produces caffeine. Last year I collected a ton of leaves and roasted them and made a lot of tea. It’s so good!
I was hearing some beekeeper the other day saying 1 basswood tree produces as much nectar as half an acre of wildflowers.

The mesquites in our area only have one main bloom that lasts less than a month, and the bees collect a ton from them. It’s nuts! Another big one here is Yaupon
😮 dang, now I’m getting hungry!
I second that! I imagine if you toss enough Mediterranean spices and herbs in, it will be awesome. But I’ll bet there’s secrets that only the recipe holder knows!
It’s really dark and super thick too! And surprisingly not too sweet. I imagine it’s mostly from mesquite trees :)
Omg I used to LOVE their red beans and rice. Thank you so much. Definitely gonna try this one!
I’m normally not so much into honey extraction, and generally opt for leaving it for the bees. But this particular hive had such a huge plethora, we took some to help a customer win over their neighbors close to their bee yard. And left a bunch for the bees to overwinter with. 5 pints from 3 frames!
Thank you! I’ll try it! I want to try making the chickpea version too :)

We try to eat “rice and beans” a couple of times per week to help lighten the grocery load. But there’s so many delicious ways to cook them, it doesn’t feel like we’re being cheap
I know nobody asked for this, but it’s so good I had to share.
We do it with rice! And avocado. It’s also super cheap and I never feel like crap afterwards.
Denial isn’t just a river in Africa
I am all about made in America. I would love that. But when you’re broke and trying to run a small business, the price to pay for American makes it very difficult. For instance, I bought a stock pot recently that was 1/3 the price had I bought it from any Western country. And it helps me save time.
The reason it benefits us to buy cheap stuff from China, if you think about it, they’re able to do the work we don’t want here for almost nothing. If we want to bring back manufacturing here, I personally think making incentives to build factories would work better than just sticking us with tariffs
It would be one thing if Musk and Trump did the whole DOGE thing and did NOT make a tax cut for the ultra wealthy, and actually brought down the deficit. At least I could see there’s some ground to stand on with that.
