I started searching and came across this web page "Should you fight a black bear?" and instead of simply saying NO they have a long discussion of why it's a bad idea, if you MUST fight a black bear, here's how to do it. iere.org/should-you-f...

Seriously they should give these people a choice between paying taxes and enjoying the protection of police and courts, and not paying tax and then having to pay for security for themselves. Like wherever they go, it's open season on them.
A blast from my past - the Medieval Soldier database takes nearly 300,000 military service records from 1369-1453 and makes them available as a searchable database.

An invaluable resource for understanding medieval warfare, society and the English medieval state. Learn more in the link. 🗃️

We created the database in order to challenge assumptions about the lack of professionalism of everyday soldiers.

Yeah, I seem to remember Jane Menken talking about the formal proof in a class when I was at Penn. It's equivalent to proving that if say people are flipping coins, and each of them stops as soon as they get a heads (or tails), the share of coin flips that come up heads will still be 50/50.

Even better if he kept the existence of his twin brother secret and then the twin brother subbed for him and provided an ironclad alibi while he committed other crimes. "He couldn't have robbed that bank! Here's C-SPAN footage of him at a House Appropriations Committee meeting at that exact time!"

I'm sorry but Gentry Beach has to be the name of a character in a Thomas Pynchon novel.

We need some kind of scale for measuring social media scientific controversy intensity, where 10 is R versus Stata.

"Oh, one pair of headphones can't hurt" and then a year later you're buying 10000 dollar USB cables.

The slippery slope that leads to becoming a completely insufferable audiophile begins with the purchase of high-end headphones.

Spelling Bee editors, Christopher Nolan would like a word with you

This led me to look up The Beachcombers and I was floored to learn that it ran for 28 years!
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Would also need to be completely ignorant of the history of monarchies to think that any of them had infinite time horizons.

Monarchies with endless time horizons? Wut?

Caro better get his ass in gear and finish that last volume.

6. No Time To Die was absolutely beautiful. Stunning cinematography.
7. Before Sunset was lovely.

Comments:
1. I didn't expect Naked Gun 2025 to work, but it did.
2. I don't know why I never heard of The Other Guys until recently.
3. Hot Fuzz was like Midsomer Murders redone by Quentin Tarantino
4. Baby Driver was good but fell apart at the end
5. Flow was magical, not like anythjng I've seen

HK to Chicago round trip movie binge.
To Chicago:

Naked Gun (2025)
Baby Driver
Flow

To Hong Kong:

No Time to Die
Hot Fuzz
Before Sunset
The Other Guys

Enjoyed all of them.

I started watching the Neeson movie with some trepidation because I just couldn't figure out they could replace Leslie Nielsen, but they really made it work. Watched it on a plane and was laughing so hard people were staring at me.
