hell of a time to be promoting a book about being trans, the damage done to the body/spirit in the decades spent fighting it, and how you can’t fight city hall (Big Transgender) but here we are. utpress.utexas.edu/978147733148...
A book called the dad rock that made me a woman by Niko Stratis, on a desk surrounded by a computer, an iPad and a coffee mug amongst other desk things

this happened to me yesterday, a bunch of calls, then texts, then emails, all within the span of half an hour.

I mention in the thread that they even reference this, but saying they're doing it "2.0"

they literally talk about how this is "Lavender Marriage 2.0", like it's a fun hack. It's so clearly a "we're paid well as influencers for this" thing and I fucking hate how its couched in so much bullshit faux-inclusivity-for-conservatives language.

it's obviously not going to be how its reported, but telling that we're in an era of increased public homophobia, and the ever revolving for of "will they roll back gay marriage", to suddenly do influencer posting about "gay-straight relationships"

He’s gay. She’s straight. They’re happily married.
Meet the couples who are redefining what it means to be in a relationship, including those in gay-straight and same-sex platonic marriages.

This is so damn scary. The book claimed that Jeffrey Epstein was the one who introduced Donald and Melania. Now the CEO of Harper UK is out.

In other news Charlie Redmayne, the long serving CEO of HC in the UK, resigned yesterday.

yeah, totally get that. My lens on him is always going to be that he clearly doesn't like trans people, trans women especially, so I can't really follow it down any road past "he think me and the people like me are less deserving of humanity"

the stuff he used to make wasn't great either though. He was one of the big "comedian who thinks shitting on trans women is a joke" guys, but he just got a pass because he spent the last few months calling out republicans.

people on here apparently need to learn a lesson most of us learn in elementary school, which is that it’s fucking rude to correct people on zero stakes things and doing so leads rightfully to social ostracism

yeah! that part of it is key, it was a level playing field to a certain degree, and also a fun space to try ideas out. Like, if I wasn't sure about an idea I would tweet it and see how it landed.
nikostratis.com
hell, if I was unsure of a pitch I would tweet the one liner idea of it. If it landed on Twitter, I would flesh it out. That's how the name for my book happened too. I tweeted a joke about "female fronted dad rock bands", and Margo Price started calling herself a "woman dad rock artist" on stage.

There's a lot to be said about the evils of social media, but when it worked it was genuinely a game changer for marketing and networking. when I started as a writer I knew literally no one, and was only able to break through because I made friends on Twitter.
nikostratis.com
I signed with my agent because I tweeted the idea for a novel. He saw it, was already aware of my work, and thought it was a good time to get in touch. I used to regularly get pitches accepted because of tweets, and editors would often DM to ask "hey if you're serious about _____ lets talk."
