Hey @scottaukerman.bsky.social & @pftompkins.bsky.social! From your most recent Threedom… if you’d like to hear an AMAZING cover of “Calling Occupants…” (that sounds cool and isn’t 7+minutes), give the Babes in Toyland cover from the ‘94 Carpenters alt-rock tribute album a test spin! Love you guys!

Dude, thanks so much for listening! It really means the world to me. Fingers always crossed with R.E.M. as the conversations thankfully continue with them. For now, I’ll just have to…

Looking for a fun Friday/weekend podcast? Don’t miss my newest Unplugged Revisited about The Cranberries MTV Unplugged from ‘95 with my special guest - Cranberries drummer Fergal Lawler! Lots of great music and ‘90s nostalgic fuzziness in this one!

His ‘91 MTV Unplugged session is a definite fav of mine. It was in the era right before they started releasing some episodes as albums, but we at least got a VHS/Laserdisc(!) release and a handful of the setlist later showed up as b-sides. Phenomenal acoustic takes on his solo and Police gems!

Yeah, absolutely “You Oughta Know” by a mile on the impact/legacy front. Plus, while “Ironic” is still a great song, it doesn’t have that ‘94-‘95 Flea/Navarro special sauce on it!

As a fellow childhood Carmen consumer, happy “A Witch’s Invitation” season to you and yours!

I also feel like “You Oughta Know” is more explicitly linked to Alanis, while “Ironic” has its own “lyrical textual analysis” thread that’s engaged with outside of Alanis. So maybe “Ironic” is the bigger song (by some metrics) but “You Oughta Know” is the bigger “Alanis song” (and my fav of the two)

Thanks so much for checking out the podcast, Jason! Mike was such a blast to chat with and such a genuinely cool person. So glad he’s still out there making incredible music and having such a good time performing it!

I interviewed Coolio for the Grammys a few years back when “Gangsta’s Paradise” turned 25 and he loved it when I called him “the Kenny Loggins of the ‘90s” for all his soundtrack contributions (also Clueless, Panther, Poetic Justice, Jerky Boys, etc.) He was a trip!

Oh man, gonna have to pick up the 40th anniversary reissue of this Descendents classic for the reworked Blue Note inspired cover art alone! Will be nice to retire my dusty old copy as well.

Great picks! Those are both SO UNBELIEVABLY GOOD - sonically and visually!

Right?!? So many of them still sound so fresh and inspired. It’s cool to see some of the eps that didn’t get an album the first time around finally see the light of day. You might dig my MTV Unplugged podcast (Unplugged Revisited) if you give it a test spin.

Man, a full album of their Woodstock ‘94 set would be AMAZING! The Green Day one for Record Store Day awhile back set a killer precedent so hopefully they’ll follow suit!

And just because who doesn’t love MORE new Unplugged goodness… Neil Young has finally pressed up his ‘93 Unplugged for US audiences but so far it’s only available as part of his ORS#6 boxset (out 10/23). Luckily it’s paired with other perfections!

Also a heads up that Alicia Keys is repressing her 2005 Unplugged to vinyl for the first time since its original run! Her cover of Prince’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me” is worth the pick-up alone. It’s coming out in early-to-mid October and preorders are up now!

Yes!!! 30 years later The Cranberries are finally blessing us with their MTV Unplugged session getting a proper standalone album (out 11/7). It was cool to get the 9-song set as bonus tracks on the No Need To Argue reissue earlier this year but this is aces!

This looks so amazingly good! I’m really stoked for this new Ally Pankiw directed, Dan Levy produced doc about Lilith Fair to hit Hulu and Disney+ next week. Lilith was a genuinely revolutionary concept and I’m so stoked it’s getting this well deserved deep dive documentary.

Yes!! What an insta-classic to this day! I always loved the way they amped it up on their MTV Unplugged episode (with Joe Public as their live backing band)!
