The brilliance of the film lies in how it juxtaposes the mundane, everyday forms of violence in the first half with the spectacular violence of the second—contrasting the disavowed horror of systemic racism with the avowed horror of visceral affect.
The people who haven’t seen Sinners because they “don’t do horror,” I wonder how many of them will readily watch films about enslavement

If you watched films about enslavement and didn’t see horror, I have **questions**

Socialism in Cedric Robinson’s work, well preceded Marxism, is the rebellion against abuses of power for which capitalism emerges in response

In Wolff’s frame, socialism emerges from Marxism aiming for worker appropriation of surplus & to end the employer-employee relation, the crux of exploitation

Indeed, for the revolutionaries, the war of maneuver is not about the revolt itself but the consciousness behind it, particularly their vision of a new society.
Just finished this right after having read @hofrench.bsky.social's Second Emancipation, and it convinced me that the African & African diaspora anti-colonial thinkers of the 1940-1975 period constituted one of the great intellectual movements in the history of humankind.

Second Enlightenment level.
We think of the postwar world order as having been built by the US. But as Getachew makes clear, that world order was completed by the intellectual giants of the African, pan-African and African diaspora liberation movements.

It is no coincidence Trump & Miller are targeting its fundamental tenet.

Some prices matter much more than others for livelihoods, production and distribution. They are systemically significant and key in the fight for affordability and against inflation.

Good’s children aren’t the only ones who have had a parent ripped away from them. The reason ICE officer Jonathan Ross was on that street in Minneapolis in the first place: the thousands of parents torn from their children, detained, and deported to countries where they may face the unthinkable.
