🚧 Building Sparkfloat’s End – a precision balloon-platformer

“Hi, I’m Camilo 👋 Making Sparkfloat’s End, a game about transporting a fragile balloon through strange environments. Devlog + game design thoughts. Follow if you’re into tiny platformers, momentum mechanics, or pixelated landscapes.”
🎈🎧 What I’m learning this week: sound design!
Got footstep + landing sounds working in Sparkfloat’s End—but they don’t feel right.
Tried recording some, but maybe I need something more... synthetic?
What kind of sounds suit an eco-dystopian world full of tension and decay?

Welp... I forgot to record the audio on that last clip 😅
(thanks @greygames.bsky.social for the heads up 🫡)
Here it is with the footsteps this time!
Still not feeling quite right—rhythm? mix? Something’s off.
Would love your thoughts 🙏

Tried adding footstep sounds to Sparkfloat’s End and... it’s not quite right 😅
They feel off—too repetitive or out of sync maybe?
Have a look/listen at the clip 👇
Anyone have tips for getting footsteps to feel right in a 2D game?

Back to working on Sparkfloat’s End! Thought I was close to done… turns out finishing a game is like packing a parachute—every tiny detail matters. It’s coming together though! 🎈 I’ll be putting it up on itch.io soon—would love your feedback! 🚀 (video below 👇)

Got some momentum back on Sparkfloat’s End! ⚡🎈

Working on two big things:
🧱 Tilesets for level design
💥 Balloon popping when it hits danger tiles (thanks to @devduckgames.bsky.social custom tile data tutorial—legend!)

What do you think? Any ideas to level it up? #GameDev #IndieDev

🎈Life’s been busy, and I’ve lost a lot of momentum 😵‍💫 but here’s some progress! 🎥

✅ First rough tileset
✅ Tweaks to game mechanics
✅ Debugging tools

Even a “simple” game feels massive. Next up: level design! 🚀 Any tips for starting strong? #GameDev #IndieDev #Godot #SoloDev

State machine refactor is almost done — Sparkfloat’s End is back to where it was… but now the code is way cleaner and future-proof 💪

Huge thanks to @theshaggydev.bsky.social for the amazing tutorials — you're a true legend! 🙌 🎈

🎈Not much progress lately—trying to implement a state machine to keep things tidy (and learn a bit too). 🧠💻

Turns out it's trickier than I thought, especially with signals flying everywhere! 😅

Any advice or resources for making it click? #GameDev #Godot #IndieDev #SoloDev

Back from a short break and back to work! 💪

✅ All core mechanics are in, including *two-step shooting* for the balloon 🎈
✨ Time for some polish—tweaking graphics & values
🗺️ Next up: *level design!*

Any tips for designing fun, physics-based levels? 🤔 #GameDev #IndieDev #PixelArt #GameDesign

🎨 Just added a nice little visual touch—can you spot the danger zone? 👀

A simple shader now slightly desaturates the player when entering high-risk areas. Subtle, but it makes a big difference!

🚀Progress update!

✅ Nailed the mechanics for hitting the balloon 🎈
⚙️ Now fine-tuning how force affects each hit—gotta make it feel just right
🗺️ Next up: level design! From caves to open skies, each area a new challenge.

What makes a physics-based game feel satisfying?🤔 #GameDev #IndieDev #PixelArt

🎈 Sneak peek at my jam-sized game! 🎮

Guide a fragile balloon through caves—bounce it just right, or boom 💥. No enemies, just physics, pressure zones, and the fight to keep hope afloat.

I know it's still rough, but the idea is there? Would love feedback! 🔥 #GameDev #IndieDev #PixelArt #GameDesign

I said I’d start small… so here’s my jam-sized game idea:
🎈 Guide a fragile balloon through a crumbling cave—one wrong hit, and it’s gone.

✅Simple mechanics
✅Physics-based movement
✅Definitely won’t scope-creep 👀

Ways to keep a project finishable? Asking for a friend! #GameDev #IndieDev #PixelArt

First sneak peek at my new jam-sized project! 🎈🕹️ Pixel art is surprisingly fun—still LOTS to learn, but loving the process. More to come soon! #GameDev #PixelArt #IndieGame #GodotEngine

I was brainstorming some game ideas last night that were getting me excited and let me tell you whatever game I make next is going to be absolute dogshit

The most important skills for game developers that nobody talks about: emotional maturity and openness to criticism. If you won't listen to other people about your game, there's no way you'll make a good game. #gamedev

Hey #gamedev community

let’s all try to reply more, whether it’s feedback, advice, or just a kind word. Your comment might be the boost someone needs to keep going.

We grow stronger together, so let’s interact, support, and help each other level up! Thanks everyone for sharing & caring ❤️

🎮 The response to my previous post has been amazing🙏 Thanks all for the encouragement and advice!
Main takeaways as a noob game dev:

Jam-sized projects == great practice
Scope-creep == bad (focus)
Start with ONE mechanic
Think modular for future expansion

What am I missing? ✨ #gamedev #indiedev
