CFC will be at the River Guardians Summit this weekend!

The Right to a Healthy Relationship With Humans

With Jon Moses and Zofia Page, brought together by Lawyers for Nature & @paulpowlesland.bsky.social

Bringing a commons lens to bring humans back into right relationship with our rivers
Can the commons help our rivers to thrive again?

With no help from the private or public sector, turning our rivers into commons could be a ray of hope in a dark time.

The systems that traumatise us and the land turn us into perpetrators of trauma

It’s a cycle that has to stop

Community = people + land. That’s why the commons are radical, and why we need them so much now

Dream of rewilding, but it’s out of reach?

There’s a way we could all access land, to rewild, to be a guardian for nature and future generations.

Reform the commons

3/4 We could even have community kitchens - hubs for the local area, and the ability to feed those who are struggling with the cost of living crisis
2/4 By creating new common rights, including the right to grow food in a nature friendly way, we could start hundreds of grow projects across the country, with local communities having the right to reap the rewards
1/4 Can’t afford land, but want to grow food, and a community?

Many of us dream of a patch of land to grow food for ourselves and for our community.

But for most of us, it’s a pipe dream. At a time when it’s almost impossible to even buy somewhere to live, stretching for land is out of reach
Thanks @wildjustice.bsky.social for your work on this. It’s essential that the government don’t get away with weakening environmental protections
We've been granted a permissions hearing at the High Court for our legal challenge against Angela Raynor's assertion that the Planning & Infrastructure Bill 'will not reduce environmental protections', which we say was both untrue & unlawful.

We’re back the open spaces sticker call to tree open the registers! This lost land will be open access land - let’s get people back into nature 🙌
On the sixtieth anniversary of the Commons Registration Act 1965, we have challenged ministers to re-open the closed registers in England, and save thousands of square miles of green land for the people to enjoy: bit.ly/46KNsWs
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the 1965 Commons Registration Act - a piece of legislation which has unwittingly created devastating consequences for both humans and nature. It’s time for change
I grew up with a particular love for dystopian films - the running man, blade runner, total recall, akira. It’s scary to be living it for real. This can’t go unchallenged - we, and our children will pay for this
Behind every draconian decision, there's secret evidence ("detailed security assessments") we're not allowed to see. We should just suck it up and believe them.
Sorry, Yvette Cooper, that's not how democracy should work. When you make a decision of such consequence, we need to see the basis for it.
Yvette Cooper is asked about her decision to ban Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and she claims she received detailed security assessments & advice & is in receipt of disturbing information that the rest of us don't know about
Looks fantastic - I can’t wait!
The thin end of the wedge. I never thought I’d see this from a ‘Labour’ government. The right to peaceful protest is one of the freedoms we bang on about fighting for, no?
Maybe we should sell off golf courses instead?
Brilliant work getting the truth out there! Great read 💚
We have an ancient system of land rights that still governs land in the country larger than Greater London and Essex combined. It’s something very special, but more than that, it has the potential to help us face some of our biggest crises

Natural England need to be given some teeth to punish those breaking the law. Ridiculous that 50 million pheasants are released every year, but no one can get a license to release beavers, which are native!
Absolutely. It’s not Labour anymore. I’m not sure what they even stand for
I look forward to listening to it! Hopefully there’s some lessons we can all learn for how to reach people feeling alienated and under pressure
I agree with this whole heartedly - building a movement, connecting all the groups together, putting aside differences - there are so many of us out there, and we can often feel alone. But we’re not. We’re all fighting the same system, whether it’s nature, trans, Gaza, industrial farming or VAWG ✊🏽
'We already have the resources: the people, the money, the desire. The problem, as always, is connection and getting these connections to start moving.'
Ecology at the end of the world
Climate activists need to come together to build connection, community and movements - aims and principles can come later.

I’m so proud to see so many British people standing up against this. We are a nation of activists!
