Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

Eighty-one years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army.

1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over.
Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.

#Onthisday 1946 The UN Atomic Energy Commission was founded "to deal with the problems raised by the discovery of atomic energy."

It proposed for “the elimination from national armaments of atomic weapons” and the use of atomic energy “only for peaceful purposes.”

It was disbanded in 1952.

In his 1963 "Letter from Birmingham Jail", Martin Luther King Jr. wrote that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws and to take direct action rather than waiting potentially forever for justice to come through the courts.
