Capturing Alaskan scenes, happenings, and experiences for all to see. Also, sharing the life of my garbage can, Derby (they/them). I don’t see typos. Opinions are my own. Live, work, and play on Dena'ina Lands.
Who’s ready for more snow?!

Some forest scenes during the last snow event in Anchorage (shot at 120fps and slowed 4x). More is on the way starting late Fri!

After a record setting snow, I decided to bring back the shovel cam! It was about 0F/-18C, perfect for that squeaky snow sound.

We are going into a snowier pattern. I wanted to be sure my future self would be happy that my past self made room to put the more snow.

I feel like more teachers need to see this. It’s a way better question than how many apples Johnny owned. Snow amounts >> apples owned.

Share for the kids struggling to see the value of math and science, in the name of humanity.
The garbage truck left Derby in a horizontal position. Since then he’s picked up almost 1” of snow. Total since yesterday is 15” which means 6” piled up on Derby while waiting for the truck (8am). That means nearly 7” of fuffy joy in 6 hours!

Teachers, feel free to use this scenario for quizzes.

Happy garbage day to all that celebrate!

Derby has accumulated 8 inches (20 cm) of fluffy joy as of 8 AM. Derby won’t be reliably accumulating fluffy joy today due to the garbage truck’s expected arrival.

A decision has been made on a paint refresh. Moon shot seems appropriate for me with some Swiss coffee.

Happy Garbage Eve to all that celebrate! It’s the last one of 2025 for Derby.

Derby accumulated an inch of snow for the week.

I want to see Rudolf's red nose in light pillar form in Fairbanks tonight.
Some of the most intense and vivid light pillars I've seen on the south side of Fairbanks tonight! I took a few more photos: photos.lwpetersen.com/Recent-Photos

Some of my favorite auroras from 2025. Wait until the end to see my most viewed aurora video.

Merry Christmas Eve to those that celebrate!

I added another aurora capture to the 2025 list last night! It wont make top 5 for 2025, but it is always nice to see.

This was my first aurora capture of 2025, early morning on Jan 1. I'm wondering how many auroras I have left this year.

Tonight's a possibility to add another.

An airplane doing airplane things just after sunset on Friday.
December 14, 2025 at 7:00 PM
In reviewing some aurora video from Sept, I noticed I captured something flying across the sky. Did I video a bat flying with the aurora?

This isn't AI. You will never see me post a photo or video generated by AI.

Barbie would approve of today's sunset colors.
December 13, 2025 at 3:24 AM
I took more photos of the outside from the inside.

Who's ready for more aurora?!

This is it at regular speed. It was really moving that night.
December 9, 2025 at 1:16 AM
Airplanes flying in front of a volcano (Spurr) and into an ocean of clouds. There's so much to see when you look around.
December 7, 2025 at 8:05 PM
Derby wanted to let everyone know there’s 2” of new snow!
December 6, 2025 at 4:44 AM
Tonight's moon at 99% full!

This is a composite image of 4 photos at different exposures.
