THE TINKERERS is on sale today! I’m so proud of this weird, magical, cozy, mini-time-travel book, and I really hope you enjoy it. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/787553... #kidlit #mglit
The Tinkerers by Caroline Carlson is “brilliant” (the Horn Book starred review) and “warmhearted” (Kirkus).

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

CONFESSIONS FROM THE GROUP CHAT is about a popular girl who ✨spectacularly✨ implodes her friend group, only for them to humiliate her by posting every brutal text she ever wrote about other students--including the ones about the unpopular boy she has just begun to befriend . . . and fall for. 10/21
Book held up against a cloudy sky.

Oh no, this is really sad news. Thinking of all the B&T employees and everyone in publishing, library jobs, and bookselling who will be negatively affected.

Baker & Taylor appears to be shutting down. A post on the r/libraries subreddit from an employee of B&T breaks the news and there appear to be other employees in the comments confirming the situation.

Fact 2: Applying eye drops to your own adult eyes is much easier than applying eye drops to a writhing, screaming 8-month-old baby. (Unless you scream and writhe—then I imagine it is a challenge.)

Fact 1: Did you know you can taste your eye drops? (Not by putting them on your tongue, but after you put them in your eyes and they drain down your behind-the-nose-ish area?) (That is the technical term.)

Yes, I do have a book coming out in 6 days, but I am currently on an hourly eye drop regimen, so forget the author thing; I am now a full-time Eye Drop Application Professional. Please stay tuned for interesting eye drop facts.

The Unexpected Lives of Ordinary Girls is out today! This pro-immigrant, pro-freedom to read #middlegrade #historical is inspired by the life of my grandmother, and I'm so happy to share it with you all. www.jandersoncoats.com/the-unexpect...
Illustrated book cover. At the top of the image is a street scene from early twentieth century Denver, with people of all ages in suits and long dresses. Some are on foot; others are in horse-drawn buggies. There is a large archway with "Welcome" across the top, and beyond it is Seventeenth Street full of people. There are buildings with arched windows on either side of the street. At the bottom left is a white girl with a single braid. She is wearing an beige dress and carrying a messenger-style bag over her shoulder. She is looking up at the archway with an excited expression on her face. At the bottom right is an Eastern European folk art motif with flowers and viney stems. The color scheme is shades of turquoise blue and an orangey-red, with purple accents. In the middle of the image is the book's title in white text: The Unexpected Lives of Ordinary Girls. Also the author's name in red text: J. Anderson Coats.

BTW marmalade consumption is down 😞

I had a question about trends in marmalade exports (don’t ask). My husband offered to ask ChatGPT. I told him that was like if a guy broke into our house and stole all of my stuff, and then my husband tracked the thief down a few days later and asked him what he knew about marmalade.

Kate, I think we should roadtrip to Wales to have tea with Stephanie and talk about our favorite books.

You may have been watching too much @taskmaster.tv with your family when you find some dried ketchup in your American 9-year-old’s hair and she says, “At least it wasn’t a bloody satsuma!”

Oh, Charlotte, thank you! This is such a generous review, and you summed up the book so much better than I’ve ever been able to. I’m over the moon that you enjoyed it. 💙

This evening my sweet children, ages 9 and 6, told me where in their classrooms they are supposed to hide if someone comes to their school to hurt them, and I could not stand to hear it. It’s not okay to live like this. It’s not okay to force children to live like this. It’s not okay.
