Checked in. It's not going to be a late night after my 4.15am start so my nightcap is very simple - almost directly over from my hotel in Malz which is a craft beer bar with a very good selection. A local Craywinckelhof Kraaike Tripel Donker 7.5% and some hummus with chilli oil and plenty of bread.

I doubt it'll be a late night in Leuven given my early start. Tbh postponing my evening trip to Aarschot until tomorrow is probably the best idea!

My final beer in Halle was to have been Quadrupel Gronckel 11% from Vrijstaat Vanmol Brewing, a microbrewery in Lennik where Jan Paneels of 'In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst' is assistant brewer, but it was out so their Tripel 9% instead.

After an emergency trip to the cash machine when Den Obelix didn't take cards except Bancontact, I'm in 't Parlement which has an exceptional beer list, particularly on the geuze front. I 've gone for a new beer to me Rosten Uil 7% tripel. It's in the book and you get a free Italian ham portion.

You must also do Den Herberg in Buizingen (15min walk from Halle Station- the closest) and my next stop 't Parlement.

I've wandered into the centre of Halle. The first of two cafés is Den Obelix which has a very good beer list and Rochefort Triple on draught so that'll do.

Apparently it's National Coming Out Day so time for me to admit that I like beer.

Tomorrow because that's obviously the wrong opinion. Seriously that sentence is disgusting.

Should you care it's the Arendonk branch which I've never visited. Will be shopping at the Leuven branch on Monday.

@curiousclaire.bsky.social I'm convinced this would convert you to lambic. It's so complex. Mind you it is €11.50 a bottle here!

Finishing at Den Herberg with their Geus Genereus which is a blend of their 4,5,6 & 7 year old lambieks. It is very good. And some cheese.

At last settled in my first - Den Herberg in Buizingen which, for those that don't know, brews its own lambic and blends its own geuze. Starting on the house lambiek. I suspect a second will follow very soon.

Yeah, I'll have a more leisurely visit to Halle now then just go to Leuven, moving my planned evening excursion today from Leuven to Aarschot to tomorrow
carolinedebenh1.bsky.social
Yeah. Can't wait for Den Herberg. About an hour from now.

And a second beer. I don't know if they'd give me a third but I reckon I'll save myself for Belgium now.

This may have been that! Either way I'll save myself for Belgian beer I reckon!
