Yes, Atropa belladonna. Which is very toxic. We also have Solanum nigrum known as black nightshade widespread in my part of UK, regarded as toxic too. Different to the US black nightshade S americanum which is eaten I believe
Finally found deadly nightshade in the wild. Lovely glossy berries On a verge in Oxford. @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour
As ever late for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #wildflowerhour . Favourite plant finds this year were the tiny lesser twayblade in Yorkshire, thyme broomrape in the Burren and creeping lady's-tresses in Norfolk. #favouritefinds #favouriteplants #ukorchids #broomrape
Long slow botany run today with a few #seedheads of blue fleabane, saw-wort, small teasel & the only violet helleborine not eaten by deer @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
Slightly late for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social again. Managed a trip to the car wreck devastation of a quarry near Luton for Chiltern gentians for #gentianfamily Amazing what conditions they survive in.

Much of Hungary’s Duna (or great plain) region once lay beneath the ancient Pannonian Sea ... Caroline Gilby MW reports from the fascinating Szekszárd wine region.

A little early so I don't forget @wildflowerhour.bsky.social Highlight of the week has to be Chiltern gentian (Gentianella germanica) . One of its central Bedfordshire sites is full of wrecked cars, rubbish and offroader damage, but the flowers survive. #wildflowerhour
Yes, its Bedfordshire site
Going with moon carrot ( Seseli libanotis) with lady bird, Anchusa arvenis with an unidentified beetle, skullcap and yellow bird's-nest setting fruit. For #wildflowerhour #pollinatorpals @bsbibotany.bsky.social
They are very tiny and hard to find!
A spontaneous trip to Norfolk for creeping lady's-tresses. With bonus Jersey cudweed, Norfolk everlasting pea and sea holly for #bythesea #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Some good ones for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #DeadNettlefamily Featuring young leaf rosette of ground pine (Ajuga chamaepitys), basil thyme (Clinopodium acinos), large-flowered hemp nettle (Galeopsis speciosa) and red hemp nettle (Galeopsis angustifolia) #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social

A good article in @thebuyer11.bsky.social about the revolution in Cypriot winemaking. The Ultimate CEE wine fair gets a mention and my masterclass on Cyprus and grapes like Yiannoudi, Promara, Maratheftiko, Morokanella and Xynisteri. #cypruswines #xynisteri #yiannoudi #ceewinefair
Late again, this time due to a stressful mountain rescue situation. Everyone involved is fine now. My offering for #wildflowerhour #HairyPlants is sawwort Serratula tinctoria. Central Beds
@wildflowerhour.bsky.social I totally missed the #HelleborineChallenge on Sunday. My belated offer is some very tiny green-flowered helleborine, clearly suffering from drought. Central Bedfordshire
Purple emperor this morning. Central Bedfordshire
I have another broomrape for #wildflowerhour Clover or common broomrape is my guess for this @christhorogood.bsky.social . Seen at Barton Hills NNR and not far away my flora guardian species Basil thyme. @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Spent 4 days looking for this in The Burren. Serendipity of taking the wrong route meant I found it just before leaving for airport. Thyme broomrape I believe @christhorogood.bsky.social
Very proud of being able to organise the Ultimate CEE wine fair 2.0 this week. Joined by amazing winemakers from 17 countries. I left two masterclasses on Iconic wines from the region and also the Cyprus wine story. #ceewinefair #wine
