Please know that I’ve been mentally referring to this app as “blue-ski” this entire time and I don’t think I can stop now.
Like, I understand some of the logic here but this is not what the Golden Globes Best Musical/Comedy category was made for. It was made for my beloved Kiss of the Spider-Woman and they blew it

I love following my bliss at critics awards voting time. Like, for instance, my unhinged Best Adapted Screenplay line-up:

28 Years Later
Bridget Jones 4
Hedda
Kiss of the Spider-Woman
The Life of Chuck

Spent so long trying to figure out why a random, unnecessary scene was left in an upcoming movie only to finally discover that said scene stars the director's son.

Damn, Spotify. Can’t a girl just like oldies??

I've seen The Little Mermaid approximately a thousand times in my life and yet still felt like I got something new out of deep diving into it for my "Princess Diaries" series.
‘The Little Mermaid’ changed everything

In my recent column on Kill Bill, I mentioned that the villainous rapist character feels like he’s played for laughs and the commenters ripped me apart for the idea that ANYONE would ever laugh at such a harrowing moment in a Tarantino film…
I think I lost patience with QT when I watched The Hateful Eight with a group of obnoxious dudes who laughed themselves silly every time Jennifer Jason Leigh got viciously smacked around by the “heroes,” getting more and more badly injured.

It’s like their parents said, “Okay boys, why don’t you get out of the house today and each go make a weirdo character study set against the backdrop of a niche sport enjoying a successful run in Japan.”

You can support a small female-owned business (me!) by subscribing to my brand new rom-com column, You've Got Rom-Com. So far I've written about Crazy Stupid Love and It Happened One Night and I've got Last Christmas on the docket for next month!
My new rom-com column kicks off with ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’

If The Little Mermaid says you should give up your voice for a man then Aladdin says you should pretend to be a prince to woo a girl, The Lion King says you should run away from your problems and sing “Hakuna Matata,” and Toy Story says you should push your rivals out a window.

Shaggy singing “It Wasn’t Me” from a giant golden turkey float, while Savannah Guthrie praises Jennie-O for being a “global leader in turkey.” I love the Macy’s parade so much!

#StrangerThings S4 recaptured the magic of season one, Stranger Things S5 recaptures the frustration (and occasional highs) of season two.

One of the funniest Hollywood trends is every prestige actress needing to do at least one movie where she plays the trashy girlfriend of a boxer/mixed martial artist

Just a note to all foreign-language film distributors that if you could stop putting white subtitles on light backgrounds, that would be great!!

There was one storyline in Zootopia 2 that genuinely made me cry and then a whole lot of forgettable sequel stuff too
Zootopia 2 is a stagnant sequel with one stellar subplot
Disney seems less invested in Zootopia 2, churning out a sequel that feels more like a Disney+ TV show than an animated epic.

Not to toot my own horn, but if I were in a Pluribus situation, I feel like I would do a much better job of asking questions.

I put my theater degree to good use to talk about what Wicked: For Good changed from the stage show—and more importantly, what it didn’t
Spoiler Space: Was Wicked changed for good?
The second half of the musical has always been weak. Splitting it into Wicked and Wicked: For Good only made it more obvious.

The craziest thing about the Wicked movies is that I'm finally learning the lyrics I've been mishearing for 20+ years

Wicked: For Good isn't exactly "Wonderful," but at least Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo linger like a handprint on your heart. My review!
The bubble bursts in ‘Wicked: For Good’
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are the reason to return to Oz in this lesser sequel

One of the weird side effects of how memory-holed the George W. Bush presidency has become is people thinking the political critiques of Wicked are accidentally relevant to our current political climate and not pointedly aimed at another horrifying administration.

Huge news for me personally, the world’s foremost new Jumanji fan. Bethany forever!
Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black on the set of the third #JumanjiMovie.

In theaters Christmas 2026.

There’s nothing more jarring than when Jon M. Chu randomly decides a lyric doesn’t have to match the action happening onscreen. That’s not how musicals works…

Hmm, maybe a mistake to wear mascara on the day I do a double feature of Hamnet and Wicked: For Good…
