I'm told if I try to become a UK citizen, I'll have to take a test. I freaked out. Does that mean, I thought, I'm going to have to know the name of every king of England?!?

If I also have to know the history of royal lineage, I may just put up w/Trump & be done with it!

Ha! I'm embarrassed to admit I know absolutely NOTHING about England's history or its monarchy, so you're telling me something I didn't know. I know of course about 1066 but not the effect it had (except on architecture).

Did you know that this month marks the 1100th anniversary of the official crowning of the first King of England, Æthelstan, in September 925AD?

I must say, though, the 'marrying off' of his sisters was reprehensible.

Thank you for this. His death struck me really hard, too. And my own response made me realize how much I regarded him as the embodiment of integrity, compassion, goodness, and greatness.

And I hadn't realized he did so many movies. Never seen Quiz Show. Or Sneakers. I look forward to both.

Last nite, after 50 yrs, I re-watched All the President's Men.

Not only was I reminded of Redford's role in that story, his brilliant rebelliousness & why I so admired him - his pic was pinned to my Caltech grad office bulletin board for yrs - but how much farther we have fallen since.
