A thread, from this Queer pastor to Queer folk.
To my Queer and Trans siblings:

As a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as one ordained and set apart for the office of pastor in Christ’s Church, I do not care what our government says. This president can sign any executive order he wants, but that doesn’t change this truth: God made you. 1/8
Ah, I see my timeline just discovered the movement towards Baptist catholicity. Welcome! Baptist/low church/nondenominational types have been stressing a more liturgical pattern of life and a sacramental worldview for quite a while now. This isn’t new.

As an ordained Baptist minister, I have… Feelings™️…about this. The early Baptists were radical dissenters from the excesses of Anglicanism; and now, Prestonwood—their descendant—is having a Sight & Sound production as worship. John Smyth and Thomas Helwys are rolling in their graves right now.

Lord,
Envelop us Jesus, and be our center.
Let our hands, mind, words and work
elevate You as the center of our lives.
Amen.

A blessing for our third week of Advent.

I’m at a place, spiritually, that the books I’m reaching for are written by authors like Barbara Brown Taylor and Naadia Bolz-Weber instead of “academic” works. And I don’t hate this development for me.

Perhaps it is because I’m a Baptist, but the theological metaphysics of Mary’s immaculate conception do not make sense to me.

A.) In my read of it, it presents sin as tied up to the body in ways I find actually harmful; and

B.) again, in my read of it, it raises soteriological concerns.

Yet as I read the birth stories about Jesus I cannot help but conclude that though the world may be tilted toward the rich and powerful, God is tilted toward the underdog.

A superb article by two of my all time favorite living theologians: Dr. Hanna Reichel and Dr. David Jensen! As I mark one year of ordained ministry, I remain honored that Dave was a part of my ordination service. He spoke such kind and moving words!
The work of theology is an ongoing pilgrimage
Three theologians — David Jensen, Martha Moore-Keish and Hanna Reichel — reflect on how to teach theology faithfully in a polarized age.

One year of ordained ministry is in the books. It’s been a beautiful, humbling first year of being the Reverend Carson Hollis.
