A thread, from this Queer pastor to Queer folk.
To my Queer and Trans siblings:

As a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as one ordained and set apart for the office of pastor in Christ’s Church, I do not care what our government says. This president can sign any executive order he wants, but that doesn’t change this truth: God made you. 1/8

Go (or abide) in peace, and pray for me, a sinner.

From preaching to being a protest chaplain to presiding over the Table in the most interesting of places, my first year of ministry is in the books!

One year of ordained ministry is in the books. It’s been a beautiful, humbling first year of being the Reverend Carson Hollis.

Starting tomorrow, I invite y’all to join me in the December with Luke Challenge! I’ve been doing this for a number of years now, and I get something new out of it each time I read Luke in preparation for Christmas.

Twenty-four chapters in Luke.
Twenty-four days until Christmas Day.

“Christmas is for the oppressed. It is for those who know exile and the bitterness of hunger. The angels’ song of peace was not first heard in royal palaces or halls of government power, but in the shepherds’ fields.”

An excellent piece by Palestinian theologians John and Samuel Munayer.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know: in J.R.R. #Tolkien's Númenor, the people conducted annually Three Prayers - ceremonies in praise of Eru. The last of these was "Eruhantalë" - or "Thanksgiving to Eru" - and took place at the end of Autumn.

“When you take the story of God and the story of you and put them together—that too is Gospel.”

Christ reigns precisely by refusing to reign. He refuses the divine right of kings for a towel and basin, a crown of gold for a crown of thorns, and a throne for the hard wood of the cross.

What do y’all think of angels? Are they real corporeal spiritual entities, a literary device only with no real existence outside their apocalyptic function, or something else entirely? ⚓️

“Above all, it was his insistence that we live and minister as if God is real. Peterson is the person who taught me, at long last, to pray. I did not need to agree with everything he thought, even about some things that matter a great deal, to be grateful on an eternal scale.”
Please, liberal Christians, read Eugene Peterson
