It would make me happy if anyone who assumes I’m pro-crypto watches this first and then swings back around and tells me if they changed their mind.

Fun fact: BitGo, who helps the Trump family secure its stablecoin, was also in charge of Bitfinex’s security when it got hacked for ~30% of all its customers’ funds in 2016:

As I write this I’m realizing that it’s only a matter of time before ICE tactics bleed into criminals’ tactics.

Roll up, masked, with some “ICE badge,” in a Tahoe with no plates.

Everyone will simply assume “oh, it’s gestapo, got it.”

Horrible things happening to societal structure in America.

The worst part about this is that even if he is forced out (which he should be) he’ll just go right back to the money printer that is Cantor Fitzgerald.
Lutnick’s lies about his business dealings with a convicted child sex offender, raise serious concerns about his judgement and ethics.

Lutnick has no business being our Commerce Secretary, and he should resign immediately.
Howard Lutnick faces bipartisan calls to resign over latest Epstein revelations
Recently disclosed records suggest a closer relationship than the Commerce secretary previously indicated.

I’ve seen a lot of people, including experts who used to work at the FBI, suggest that the Guthries and LE have no reason to cooperate with the Nancy Guthrie kidnapper because they haven’t sent proof of life.

I don’t see it this way.

They proved they abducted her and made a demand.

Just shared this with a guy who specializes in finding cryptocurrency scammers, but is also a cryptocurrency advocate.

I appreciate when @casicaviar.bsky.social lobs me a question I’m dying to answer because I get to go into far too detailed an explanation.

Cas simply asked me “aren’t most cryptocurrencies very easily traceable (and therefore bad for kidnapping)?”

If you’d like an exhaustive answer, thread below.
No, it’s a good question.

So first of all let’s think about what a ransom previously meant: a family or law enforcement officer would have to take a bag of untainted cash and drop it off somewhere — obviously wire transfers or a mailing address don’t work.

So that’s an instant physical limitation.

I hope NBC is helping the Guthrie family pay for the demand and they have some sort of insurance policy.

I think all of American media is starting to watch this, expect news coverage to ramp up even more as 5 PM nears.
