I just don’t understand why anyone is under the impression that the US could stop China from taking Taiwan.
Me: I don't necessarily, I think Taiwan has the right to do whatever they want to do. I certainly think making kidnappings of foreign leaders a normal thing is bad for a small nation that is only recognized by a handful of countries. Reply: on the other hand US wont let that happen not until chips manufactures are moved to US Me: And how exactly would we stop them? Start WWIll?

Venezuela had an election. It was not a free election. He declared himself President, and he's broadly recognized as the President of Venezuela, but, again, he was not freely elected by the people of Venezuela. That could justify his indictment in an American court? I should back up. As part of this military operation, at least one of the key goals seems to have been the capture of Maduro and his wife, who have been indicted for criminal charges in the Southern District of New York. The only way they can do that is if they're claiming that he's not a head of state, because heads of state get immunity and heads of state are not subject to criminal prosecution in the domestic courts of other states. That's just a basic rule of international law. The United States has long recognized it.

I don’t know anything about flying special missions in the military, but this is interesting!
Person 1: Former special operations helicopter aviator here, typically, we would never want to launch a major mission during a full moon. Specifically so we wouldn't be easily seen in the air just like this helicopter is. Person 2: Seems like air defense / any resistance wasnt a concern in the slightest, probably could've pulled it off in broad daylight just fine. Person 1: It does seem that way. And yet another reason for the operation to have never taken place at all. Venezuela was not and is not a threat to the United States.

Chávez's remains were taken to the barracks and put on public display after he died of cancer in 2013.
