Great fun to be in the House of Lords this evening with fellow @ukyoungacademy.bsky.social exec group member @smeekings.bsky.social, to celebrate 25 years of the @royalsociety.org's pairing scheme between scientists and policy makers. Lovely to meet so many interesting people from both spheres!

Time for the @ukyoungacademy.bsky.social annual dinner! Not just a network opportunity, but also great speakers!

Yesterday was the induction to our new @ukyoungacademy.bsky.social members, and what great conversations already: Using AI smartly, urban reconstruction after war, supporting at risk academics, operational logistics in industry, criminal psychology, you name it!

At @royalsociety.org today for the @ukyoungacademy.bsky.social annual members meeting. I have even found a former Dunner!

It was a pleasure to be the second Node community manager, and also to join the crew for a reunion. Thanks Joyce for making it happen!

Tonight at 5.30pm on the BBC! 📺

The Foster group here at the the Dunn School will bring the science of the microbiome to ‘Operation Ouch!’, a popular children programme presented by Doctors Chris and Xand Van Tulleken. One to watch with your little ones! 👣🦠

It was a real pleasure to represent the UK Young Academy at a roundtable discussion on 'Science in Conflict Zones' at the @ria.ie Royal Irish Academy yesterday, organised by the Young Academy Ireland @yai.ie (organisers featured in the photo). Inspiring and thought provoking discussion!

Saddened to hear Bela Novak has died

Pioneering and influential systems/quant biologist. Changed how we think about the cell cycle (amongst other things).

Still hard to believe but Béla Novák died suddenly on Saturday.

We've lost a fantastic colleague, mentor & great friend to many. There was really no-one else like him. Working with him was so much fun & I owe him a lot. All my thoughts are with his family.

This article is based on our experience at Reuben College, the University of Oxford Museum of Natural History, our colleagues at the Warwick Institute of Engagement and collaboration with the NCCPE. But is primarily a conceptual proposal: it will not happen without funding or support!

The public does not care what department we work in, but how our research can make difference. Are we missing a trick when approaching public engagement from a discipline-focused angle?
