My two pennies worth on Adolescence so far (2 episodes in):
1. Amazing acting and production
2. Poor research on secondary schools - frustrating to watch the same old school archetypes when they are so much more switched on to current youth issues nowadays.

very worried about Suzanne O Sullivan’s book about over diagnosis - in particular on ADHD - a Radio 4 book of the week loved by The Guardian - having spent a great deal of time talking to neurodivergent people -knowing the battles they’ve had & have - I fear this will be ammo for cynicism

Really glad to have discovered this. Makes me feel less nuts particularly at times when I’m struggling.
@therestpolitics.bsky.social QT interesting observation: totally agree phones have less beneficial impact than the great changes of 20th century. In discussing these changes you mention steam, planes, cars, indoor plumbing etc but miss the impact of birth control the biggest development for women.

@therestpolitics.bsky.social with global events quite understandably taking centre stage it seems that public policy is largely ignored at the moment. I rarely see anything about education policy in the mainstream media and schools only mentioned when something awful happens.

All true - whilst the potential loss of these academic jobs is bad, the loss of STEM jobs is no worse than losing others; STEM might provide us with the discoveries that extend lives, but humanities/culture make those lives worth living.
