Our futures are defined by the choices we make now, and we can choose to be better than those who came before us by opting for kindness and understanding.

I was honoured to be Acting Mayor at the One Water Journey this past May and lucky to have met Gimaa Stacey Laforme. I encourage everyone to attend the Indigenous events throughout the year and today for #TruthAndReconciliation

The report showcases a few of the projects and initiatives, which are an ongoing path to change how we work to undo colonial harms on Indigenous Peoples locally.

Council approved the Indigenous Relations Framework for the The City of Guelph in 2024, and I'm happy to see all the progress we have made in one year towards a more inclusive and culturally expansive Guelph, in the spirit of reconciliation.

Canada Post offices are still in inaccessible locations that use perfumed products and sell perfumes. Decreasing accessibility and cutting jobs is not how we build a strong country.

Seems like a good time to remind people that Canada Post will deliver any piece of mail to federal elected officials for FREE.

No stamp necessary!

Just a reminder in case you, oh I dunno, wanna send your elected officials a sternly worded letter a day for a year or something.

Fantastic start to the Guelph Multi-cultural festival. Celebrating all people and customs in one space over three days with a lot of food, music and dancing. Loved seeing all the community groups and vendors. Go and check it out all weekend long.

Had an amazing tour of Creative Pottery from Brenda. It’s great to have a pottery studio that offers classes for all ages, is accessible and has pottery you can paint (mostly sourced in Canada), in Ward 1. Check them out at 259 Grange Rd. tucked behind Smitten.
Crafting on the pottery wheel. Brenda and friend in front of ceramics. Painting station. Colour choices and room to paint in.

You know what a $10,000 fine to someone living in unsheltered homelessness does? Costs money in court, police, jail and municipal staff to process. It will never be paid. Paying for housing is cheaper and actually helps people get better. We’re being governed by clickbait.

Still waiting on all that money for affordable housing, mental health and addiction treatment Premier Ford. This endless legislative churn that costs municipalities to administer and does absolutely nothing is getting really tired. www.guelphtoday.com/local-news/f...

Mayor Guthrie has (finally) called the open session to order.

You may recall that that there were 3 things on the closed agenda:

1. ERM Implementation Phase 1
2. Hanlon Creek Business Park
3. 35, 45 and 55 Silvercreek Parkway - Ontario Land Tribunal Update

We need a better report and consequences path than having to sue through the human rights commission. It should be handled like bylaw and be a provincially funded agency per municipality. @pattyhajdu.bsky.social

It’s @fcm.ca in Ottawa and #NationalAccessAbilityWeek. I can’t attend because we don’t have legislation that makes hotels or airlines or conferences have to be free of perfumes or essential oils. Disabled people do not have equity. We lack disability representation. @pattyhajdu.bsky.social

Thanks to council for voting in my amendment to our social media code of conduct. We now have a duty to moderate hate speech and abuse in our comments, failure to do so is now subject to integrity commissioner complaints.

Thanks so much LDAWC! It was an honour as acting mayor to congratulate you on behalf of @guelph.ca & council on all the hard work you do to provide free programs to kids with learning disabilities & ADHD in Guelph & Wellington County region. Have a great trivia fundraiser!

Thanks to West Willow Village Co-op for inviting me to your bike safety event. Biking from the eastend, it gave me a chance to try the multi-use paths & protected @guelph.ca bike lanes on Silvercreek. Great to see folks from @activeguelph.bsky.social, @guelphpolice.bsky.social, & @ugdsb.bsky.social
