"couldn't meet increasing govt debt" is what it boild down to.
I don't support any party in particular. I just want to see sane and sensible rather than a Farage Trumpist rabble in no 10. And a recognition of the big issues facing humanity rather than navel gazing. Climate, nuclear proliferation, and facing down dictators.
Wow. Magic Money theory. Been tried, old son, google Weimar Republic.
I'm watching a likely bond crisis cos almost all W democracies continuously o/borrowed when we all knew demographic change was coming. +no party can get elected on a platform to restore fiscal balance, so the bond markets will force it. Happens all the time, but not on this scale. It will be ugly.
There is no mandate to change the electoral system. Stand on that manifesto ...IMV LAB should have done so, for PR - but they didn't.
If you want to abolish the whole party system, just what would you replace it with?
And I'm seeing a bunch of pretty diverse left ppl who seem to think money can be magicked into being, bond mkts/defence/security ignored, + the realpolitik of today's global challenges just melts away in the face of righteousness.
Well I thought Bsky a haven of sense and civility till I wrote on this thread. Suddenly, a mob of "progressives" foaming at the mouth just like the right wing loons on X. Even they never replied calling me a cunt. Time to block a few ppl, I suppose.
Of course they've looked at it, esp LAB ones. It can't be fixed without USA, and they don't want it fixed. Capital moves around, only strong intnl rules could control it, and we're now moving in the opposite direction.
It's the system we've got and you have to work with it. And the vmore you treat ppl who tell you inconvenient truths as "uninformed" the more you will move far from electoral reality.
That would not be a bad outcome, but it ain't gonna happen, The right will unite, but the left won't ; the attitudes on this thread tell you all about that.
You think successive Chancellors haven't looked at that? If only it were possible.
No its not. It's how party politics work. No one gets the party they want ; hopefully a majority will get one they can live with. It's always the lesser of 2 (or more) evils, not utopia vs dystopia.
Interesting that all the replies on here ignore fiscal, electoral, political reality, and simply demand more benefits. The money's not there, people, and no one can magic it up. Mostly that's just demographics ; we now have a low worker/dependency ratio.
I suggest a look at the bond markets. Higher benefits are simply unaffordable, the benefits bill will have to be reduced, not increased. Fiscal reality.
No they don't. Complete misrepresentation. Tories are obvs pulled R by reform and adopting their policies. Lab are not, bar immigration, which they belatedly realised is THE big issue that will lose them a GE to Reform. ALL parties are prisoners of the bond markets + have to prioritise state exp.
Kind of you to say so. But if that's your best shot, consider your position.

Sounds like the sort of person who would never get involved in fraudulently buying a house in Clacton to avoid tax.
Nonsense. What deluded rabbit hole did you go down to get that idea?

This needs wider coverage. Frightening.
Would *really* recommend listening to New York Times' Jane Bradley talking about Farage and US, and Russian influence, on Democracy for Sale this week

This is how Farage and Tice reacted at PMQs when someone raised the issue of one of their politicians accepting bribes to spread Russian propaganda. Apparently it’s funny to be a traitor.
