Updated my art portfolio! The one downside is I don't have my own website so I gotta just put it all here I guess

I have been making art under the handle of CarrionCrepitations for several years, and my dream has been to become a concept artist. I am also in the progress of a number of personal projects, both in game design and in creative writing endeavors. Numerous personal health issues, including mental health struggles, heart surgery in 2018, and a stroke in 2024 have prevented me from being able to work fully for many years, but I am working hard to overcome these setbacks." The text reads "My current focal project is a game idea known as Soul Of The Plot, with the name being inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe poem 'The Conqueror Worm', which states "Much of madness, and more of sin, and Horror--the soul of the plot." Once complete, the full game will revolve around creature catching and battling using the collected creatures, but all of the encountered creatures, referred to as Plots, represent various literary genres such as Horror, Fantasy, Romance, SciFi, Action, and Mystery. The main character, Cass Helix (shown on the left and right depending on player choice) is a resident of Macabre, the Horror area of their world. They are going on a test to become a Librarian, the name for people who wield Plots to create stories for the different lands. There is also a secondary protagonist by the name of Night Eiros who the player encounters at various parts of their journey. Night is a mysterious figure that appears in various towns, speaking individually to the Librarians in charge of all the different areas. His motivation is largely unknown to the player, but he is attempting to get the approval of the Librarians in support of reopening a banned area of the world, which is referred to only as [REDACTED] due to everything including its name being stricken from every record. He has a strong connection to Plots and the areas they are from." A page labeled "Creatures", with two images of 3-stage evolutions of creatures. One is a cat which evolves into a cat woman with blades in her tail, and the other is a large worm which evolves into a muscular man with yellow wings and rows of metal spines on his arms. It says "The creatures, typically referred to as Plots, have a number of different forms which they can grow into over time. These evolved forms are stronger and have more developed abilities than the smaller forms. The Kuneko (shown above) is inspired by a number of urban legends and internet tales, along with childhood terrors. As such, their design is a black cat mixed with stuffed animals and the Japanese legend of Kuchisaki-onna, the Slit-Faced Woman. Kuneko evolves into Chineko, then into Chisakineko. The other Plot has less direct inspiration than Kuneko, but is also a horror-themed Plot based around 'creepy crawlers'. The Blood Maggot evolves into the Pallid Wasp, which then becomes a Conqueror Worm."

One more design mostly done! I may rework some of the details, but I wanted to try to finish at least one more creature so I did a quick version of the evolution of another Horror type; this one is Death Maggot, Pallid Wasp, and Conqueror Worm. May redraw these later, I'm rushing a bit

Drew the two variations of the protagonist of the game with the creatures I posted the other day. Since these games normally have a gender option I wanted to make two styles, but to be clear here Cass is trans either way, it just changes if the character is trans femme or trans masc

Working on a game idea I had with creatures based off of literary genres. This one's a Horror type with stuff inspired by urban legends; the blade in her tail is two moving parts like scissors

Redid the design of Mystere I've been working on to fix some stuff I wasn't thrilled about with Her appearance; my mom suggested some stuff that worked well with the pachyderm details, and has generally just been great design feedback for Her

Been playing Subnautica and I wanna draw the big beautiful sea creatures. Posting a WIP bc I'm nowhere near done but I love her and have to gush about how much I love her

So I've been practicing rigging animation instead of drawing every frame, and I have determined that Horny is a good motivator for me so I drew self-indulgent NSFW of my fursona. There's no shading bc the idea of animating shadows intimidates me

I'm still working on rethinking my character styles and shapes in general, but it's been slow going. So far on the project folder I've made for design work I've redesigned my fursona and reworked how I draw Saint Dane (bc I have a slight obsession)

Decided to do a little work on assets for the game I've had on Itch.io for the past like, 8-10 years. I keep saying "I'm gonna make a version of this that isn't text" and then never getting around to it.

Have I mentioned how much I hate the massive jumps in art tutorial explanations? It's always "Step 1: draw a head, Step 2: draw the rest" like I'm just supposed to be able to figure out the rest through vibes or consulting with spirits or something

Anyone know any free art reference sites that don't suck? All the free photo ref sites I can find are horrible quality or pathetically small, or they're a "free trial" that means after ten minutes they want your whole wallet
