I donated some copies of Let This Radicalize You for distribution at an ICE watch training for folks who want to join school patrols in a nearby neighborhood. Not everyone got a copy, because 120 people showed up for that training tonight. I am endlessly proud of Chicago.
A display of copies of Let This Radicalize You on a table in front of a sign that reads: "Let This Radicalize You offers stories, strategy and heart for the kind of collective care and resistance we're building together today. It helps us move from reacting to organizing. Showing how ordinary people protect each other, build power, and keep hope alive. Take a copy. Read it. Stay connected."

Oh god. Is this one of those, "this is how we understand them!" strategies?

Ian Carroll is a bad dude. He appears on Alex Jones and regularly dabbles in anti-semitic conspiracy theories about 9/11 and the holocaust.

If Ro Khanna is not only sharing his videos but sitting down to talk with him or his allies, something is fundamentally broken within the Democratic Party.

Um holy shit. Did Ro Khanna really sit down for an interview with far-right influencer Ian Carroll and share a video of it?

This is really fucking bad. What the fuck is going on?

I don't take a dime from any PAC or lobbyist, including AIPAC.

I am proud to be one of the handful of Democrats standing up against Big Money.
celestepewter.bsky.social
Yup. Comms staff will see it and probably make a note/mentally flag it, but it's not going to move the needle.

While there was nothing inherently wrong with the YA books that I grew up with...

I'm kind of sad and dismayed it feels like we're going back to a time where there's less choice vs. more. The golden age of YA feels like it went away too quickly.

Good point - I wasn't following SF very closely, I just remember the hoopla.

I keep thinking there's no way Illuminae would make it through these days, because the format is so unusual.

Texting with another YA author friend this morning about the rough state of the market, and our consensus was, publishing keeps looking for the next Hunger Games, but they wouldn’t acquire the original if it were in their inboxes today

I was a huge fan of Katie Porter! Loved those videos of her poking holes in witness testimonies! And I saw that news, and I was like "Well, THAT'S disappointing." You're allowed to be critical of Dems! Hold on to your own standards.
celestepewter.bsky.social
Going to be honest: Threads going to bat for Katie Porter is one of the most 🫠 things I've seen today...

And really speaks to my ongoing belief we shouldn't stan politicians. At all.

Fellow Dems, hold politicians accountable for their work, not for who you THINK they are only on camera.
celestepewter.bsky.social
So, while KP might come off as a girl boss on camera (or whatever we're saying now), it's not genuine leadership. Ask for more. Ask for better.

And don't just defend someone because you like how they tell people off on camera. Dig into the track record and see if they're legit.
celestepewter.bsky.social
KP specifically, had a bad track record for bill passage AND she also routinely abused staff. She drove people out of politics with how badly she treated them.

What we're seeing right now with the video + interview is only a fraction of the stories I've heard of the years, and that's NOT okay.
celestepewter.bsky.social
Soundbites and the ability to summarize the work in a digestible way IS important - don't get me wrong. Democrats do have a problem with this right now.

But look at what they do off-camera too. Do they help constituents? Do they treat staff with respect? Do they lead legislation and truly govern?

"Jack Posobiec, a far-right influencer and conspiracy theorist... called Bray a 'domestic terrorist professor.' 'The day after the Posobiec tweet, I received a very direct death threat saying that someone was going to kill me in front of my students,' says Bray." Jack was at the White House on Wed.

I think the fact that Katie is still a law professor at UC Irvine (and being very loose with their housing policy), and is able to run for governor, shows that her career, fwiw, is fine at the moment.

And like someone else said: this means we need to call out abusive men MORE.

Okay. So another Dem just tried to fight me in my mentions over Amy McGrath. It was pure armchair analysis, and weird.

But here's why I'm bringing it up: we HAVE to get it together, fellow Dems.

We're seeing democracy-eroding acts from this administration Every. Day.

It's pope vs. president now. "The Church, like a mother, accompanies those who are walking," the pontiff writes in the document, titled "Dilexi te" (I have loved you). "She knows that in every rejected migrant, it is Christ himself who knocks at the door of the community."

The guy responsible for trying to provoke a civil war via extreme violence on elders, women, children, journalists, clergy, elected officials, workers, longtime residents, and refugees wants a Nobel Peace Prize. The same guy ordering them to murder people in boats in the Caribbean.

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

I know I keep telling everyone to follow my friend/coworker, @wjm-air.bsky.social, and here's why:

He knows what he's talking about when it comes to the airlines, especially during this shutdown. Here's his appearance on CNN last night.

Watch it all the way through:

I wrote about Chicago: "Is this city burning? There is a definite answer to the question. In all these cities, the answer is no. No American city is currently on fire, and if Chicago is a war zone, it’s because it’s being invaded by the president."

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.
