📢 Everyone should have a fair chance of good mental health.

And yet rates of mental illness are rising, and our chances of having good mental health are shockingly unequal.

It doesn't have to be this way. We've launched a bold new strategy for a mentally healthier future: tinyurl.com/37j7u3zx

Climate change isn’t just melting ice caps - it’s eroding our mental resilience. We must treat mental health as a core part of climate action, building communities that are both sustainable and emotionally resilient. Read more: www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/climate-chan... #WorldMentalHealthDay

We welcome much of what is in the Bill but we are concerned that, as it stands, it doesn't go far enough in establishing concrete mechanisms for change, particularly around race equity.
Keep an eye out for more on the Mental Health Bill and our key concerns and recommendations in the coming days.

Under discussion are the long-standing racial inequalities in how the current Act is applied, how the new Act, back in parliament next week could improve things, including the importance of the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework and why this should be enshrined into law.

Ahead of #WorldMentalHealthDay, our Associate Director of Policy Kadra Abdinasir talks to Emma Tracey and rapper and mental health advocate Shocka on the latest BBC Access All podcast about racial inequalities in the Mental Health Act www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... - from 22 mins in.
Quote from Kadra Abdinasir: There’s so much to welcome in the Bill but what we’re really concerned about that is we started with this whole reform journey on the basis of unacceptable inequalities and we now have a bill that doesn’t actually mention race equity.

We’re calling for the government to invest in prevention, early intervention mental health support, and to deliver on its election manifesto promise to roll out properly funded Young Futures Hubs in every community. Listen to these young experts: they know what's needed
centreformh.bsky.social
It was great to share a panel with inspiring young people and to catch up with them after the session. Children & young people are being hit hard by a growing mental health crisis. The government needs to act to turn this tide. And to get it right, they need to listen to experts by experience.
centreformh.bsky.social
“We know the evidence, we know what works, let’s take action”. That was the message from young experts by experience at the Labour Party conference this week, where we co-hosted a session as part of the #FutureMinds campaign with @cypmentalhealth.bsky.social YoungMinds and @cfyounglives.bsky.social

The immediate and long-term costs of inaction are far greater than the investment we could make now in cost-effective interventions that can help to turn the tide.

The decline in young people’s mental health is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Future Minds finds that the current lack of capacity in the mental health system means far too many young people reach crisis point, putting pressure on emergency, urgent and crisis services.

We're at #LabourConference25 with the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition and today hosted a Future Minds Campaign panel event with our partners Young Minds, @cfyounglives.bsky.social and Prudence Trust. www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications...

📢Latest guest blog from Public Health specialists Jude Stansfield, Ian Walker and Claire Robson on why we need national leadership for the public’s mental health www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/why-we-need-... #PublicMentalHealth
#MentalHealthLeadership #Prevention #HealthEquity #PublicHealth
Quote from Jude Stansfield, Claire Robson and Ian Walker: "Public mental health – a term that includes work to promote mental wellbeing, to prevent mental ill health, and to pursue social justice – is essential to create a mentally healthier future for all.” Quote from Jude Stansfield, Claire Robson and Ian Walker: “Yet it is often undervalued: on the margins of both public health (which tend to prioritise physical health) and mental health services (that focus on treatment and care for individuals).”
