Now more than ever, we need an end to this toxic politics of hate, and for anti-racist education and solidarities to heal the divisions which have been sown.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
While it is important to consider each group in context, these figures today must not be used to encourage polarisation or pit communities against one another.

The rise of the far right, and far right politics, has a clear correlation with this spike in racist violence.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
All these figures are likely a huge underestimation of hate crime incidents, given how under-reported they are, and known inaccuracies in how police record hate crimes that are reported to them.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
In Aug 2024, the month of the racist riots, Islamophobic hate crime rose by 123% from the previous month.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
Hate crimes have decreased by 18% towards Jewish communities, however it is important to note that the absolute rate of victimisation among religious groups has been (and remains) highest for Jewish people, at 106 per 10,000.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
Within that, hate crimes have increased by 27% against Sikh communities, 19% against Muslim communities, and 10% against Hindu communities.

Hate crimes against Muslim people make up 44% of all religious hate crimes, the largest proportion of all religiously motivated hate crimes.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
The official police recorded hate crime figures for 2024/25 have been released, with really stark reporting.

Between April 2024 and March 2025, there has been a 6% overall increase in racial hate crime, and a 3% overall increase in religious hate crime, compared to the previous 12 months.

For example, in the UK, Black African households hold over 8x less wealth than White British households, while Bangladeshi households hold over 7x less (see 📊)

Racial disparities are also present in unemployment and poverty rates, with people of colour facing some of the worse outcomes.
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
On top of this, our own research shows that the racial wealth gap is particularly stark, in part driven by the fact people of colour are much less likely to accumulate wealth via homeownership and inheritance 🏡
Why the UK racial wealth divide matters: a call for action

Stark findings from @resfoundation.bsky.social today reveal wealth inequality in the UK has widened so much that, even if the average earner saved every single paycheck and didn’t spend a penny over 50 years, they *still* wouldn't be in the wealthiest 10% 💸
Lifetime of earnings not enough for UK workers to join wealthiest 10%, report says
Research finds it would take average worker saving all their earnings for 52 years to match wealth of richest 10th of society

We send our deepest condolences and love to Jewish communities across the country in the wake of this morning’s horrifying attack.

We are outraged by the findings of this evening’s BBC Panorama investigation into the Metropolitan Police.

There can be no other logical conclusion than that the Met Police is irredeemable.

It seems Labour have now learnt the word 'racism', but this is utterly disingenuous given how they are pandering to Reform’s far-right agenda.

Labour can't out-Reform Reform – it needs to change tact
The Labour Party can't out-Reform Reform, and if it genuinely wants to choose ‘decency’ over ‘division’, it needs to change tact.

It's Black History Month, and there's no better time to talk about reparations.

Our new report shows that reparations are not only necessary, but achievable. When done right, they benefit us all.

“The market education system is failing the most vulnerable children in society”

Half a century on from the injustice of 'educationally subnormal' schools, similarly discriminatory practices continue to blight the lives of Black pupils today, writes Montel Gordon in our blog ✍️
Failing to learn the lessons
In the 1960s and 1970s, Black children were disproportionately sent to so-called ‘educationally subnormal’ schools, in one of the biggest educational scandals in British history. Half a century on fro...

“Schools are increasingly incentivised not to treat children as whole people but are instead driven by a results culture that intertwines with racist ideas about ability and need. The racialised exclusion culture is harmful to us all”

Our CEO @shabna.bsky.social in the @mirror.co.uk ✍️
Kids in need kicked out of school and labelled 'trouble-makers', report warns
Children with special educational needs are being suspended and excluded from school and labelled 'trouble-makers' instead of getting the support they need, a report has warned
www.mirror.co.uk
runnymedetrust.bsky.social
Far from being a last resort, exclusions are used prematurely to bolster schools’ results. There is a failure of schools to recognise and respond to unmet needs, structural disadvantage, and the ongoing pervasiveness and impact of racism.

School exclusions are a form of structural racism, and indicate deep failings within educational settings.

We show how exclusions are deeply racialised and reinforce patterns of poverty, criminalisation and disempowerment.

Exclusions are not inevitable; they are the outcome of choices made within schools and broader policy frameworks.
