Angela Rayner's legacy will be bigger than anybody in the media who has been after her head since day one. Against all odds she has helped bring about a huge uplift to workers' and renters' rights. Meanwhile, journalists spend their days snipping women. Thank you for everything you've done, Angela.

Today is going to be tedious as the FBPE ultras scream blue murder when the budget doesn’t include “we’re joining the EU next week”.

Today's the day we're going to see the most scrutinised and most talked about (lied about) budget in British history, no matter what is said today it'll be attack after attack after attack, the tories fucked the economy and now all eyes are on Labour to fix it in less than 2 years.

Some additional facts:
- Germany abolished trial by jury in 1924.
- France and Canada reserve trial by jury for the most serious cases.
- Trial by jury is not without controversy.
There is some debate about whether the UK should adopt a simular system to France, but the concept is not new.
Regarding trial by jury reforms:
1) Nothing has been decided.
2) Other countries in Europe reserve trial by jury for more serious cases. Whether this is a sensible move or not, I am unsure, but please, can people stop pretending this is a novel idea, that exists only in dictatorial regimes.
I am not going to pretend I like every single decision made by the Government. Doing so would prove impossible, and be cultish. However, the constant pearl clutching and hysteria over policies that haven't even been announced yet, is absolutely exhausting.

@antoniabance.bsky.social What do you reckon? I predict emerald green, and my friend predicts the same suit as last year.
Tempted to make a bet with my friend as to what suit Rachel Reeves is going to wear for Wednesday's budget.

Ewww. Johnathan Pie being a text book misogynist. His reaction rather proves her point. She was aiming it at people like him, who make a living out criticising others without the credentials to do so. That aside, "sugar tits" is a phrase that makes me want to projectile vomit.

If the Lib Dems, the Tories and the Greens in the House of Lords could stop trying to water down Rayner's Workers Rights Bill, I'd be grateful.

Also, Davey, talks as if Brexit isn't a valid reason to be raising taxes. I'm afraid it is.
1) You cannot solve Brexit overnight, the Government are currently looking at a PEM agreement with the EU to boost trade. However, this will not solve the fiscal problem faced now, because measures take time.
2) It is tax rises or spending cuts, but you'd know all about spending cuts wouldn't you?
Brexit has cost each and every one of us £3,700 a year.

But instead of solving the problem, Labour are using Brexit as an excuse to raise your taxes.

My message ahead of the Budget: Stop blaming Brexit and start fixing it!

Reeves has come under criticism for the choice in taxes she has and will raise, but if there is one thing she does understand is the principle of higher taxes or spending cuts. The Tories want low spending and low tax, and some in left-wing factions want no tax, high spending.

I cannot wait for Zack Polanski to take all of the credit should Rachel Reeves scrap the two child benefit cap tomorrow *sarc*. This man does not deserve a single ounce of credit I am afraid. The move has been discussed for over a year and it was announced in May that it was likely to be scrapped.

I would happily engage in a debate with Ken Clarke about the taxes introduced in the last budget. Given the circumstances, she did really quite well, but I still think she should look at income tax again. However, Clarke lost me at "cutting public spending". That worked so well last time *not*.

Bored of having to explain how the Motability Scheme works, to idiots who think they give free cars to people with anxiety. THEY DON'T.

As I said the other day, I think Starmer is a decent guy, and does actually believe in fairness for all, which makes his choice of Home Secretary all the more frustrating, and baffling. That, and it distracts from the many good things the Government have achieved in pursuit of fairness.

Huh?
November 23, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Starmer is already doing that, Ed, but we can't possibly praise Starmer for anything, can we? There is nothing as irritating as somebody telling somebody else to do something that is so clearly being done. You can criticise Keir Starmer for many things, but on Ukraine, he has been excellent.
Donald Trump expects Ukrainians to be ‘grateful’ as he prepares a carve-up of the country with Putin.

We can’t let that happen - Starmer must work with our European allies to stop this stitch-up in its tracks.

Friend predicts: the same as last year. I predict the emerald green one I've seen in a couple of photos.

There is more, but I couldn't quite fit it onto the post. One thing the Government has also done is reintroduce the school support staff negotiating body and maintenance grants. David Cameron scrapped both, and it looks like Reeves will scrap the two-child benefit cap in the budget too.
Cameron-era policies undone:
Ban on onshore wind
Ebbac status
Ban on local authorities opening schools
Refusal to invest in infrastructure
Thatcher-era policies undone:
Public ownership of buses ban
Right to buy on all new builds
Privatisation of rail operators
etc.

To be clear, I mean this as a compliment; I've been a fan of Reeves' suits for a long time. Say what you like about her economic policy, but her suits always serve. I am predicting her emerald green one will make an appearance.
