Angela Rayner's legacy will be bigger than anybody in the media who has been after her head since day one. Against all odds she has helped bring about a huge uplift to workers' and renters' rights. Meanwhile, journalists spend their days snipping women. Thank you for everything you've done, Angela.

I’m gonna defend Liz Truss, because I like to be blocked by two or so people every day, and say that her plans were 100 times more reasonable than these, in that she thought she would have enough time to bounce Tory MPs into backing spending cuts. Much less daft than anything Badenoch has said.

There's a touch of the Liz Truss about Kemi Badenoch. Both in the tax cut paid for by fantasy figures and also a belief there's This One Special Trick The British State Doesn't Want You To Know About! that will somehow solve everything.
Be rude to some civil servants and the UK's problems vanish!

Comparing genocide to being in the Union is "Based" now? Yikes.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Scottish Nationalists pride themselves on being better than Nigel Farage, when in reality, they are not. Nationalism of any kind is toxic. Equating a genocide, where thousands of Palestinians have been murdered, to being in the Union is deeply offensive.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
"Government is considering" is usually just code for "we've made this up". The Guardian are an absolute disgrace.

A Scottish Nationalist has blocked me because I rightly say that equating the Union with the genocide in Gaza is insensitive and egregious. The fact that they have blocked reveals more about them than it does about me. Nationalism of all kinds is toxic.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Comparing the Union to a genocide, how insensitive is that?

So, as usual, the Guardian convinced everybody it was going to happen, but in fact, it was b*llocks.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
That might be the case for your partner, but if you need adaptations like hand controls, surely Motability is the only way forward?
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
You must have watched a different speech, Lewis.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
My apologies, I will delete my reply if you would like. I thought you were one of the usual suspects.

Personally, let's direct more energy at tax evasion, rather than a scheme that helps disabled people to have control over their own lives.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
So, what you are saying is eighty per cent of new cars are not Motability. Kemi Badenoch should try being disabled for five minutes; she will soon realise just how many hoops you have to jump through to gain the privilege of being able to drive somewhere and have freedoms that able-bodied people do.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
No, she spends too much time on X.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Yes, but I think Labour would have passed same sex marriage had they been in power at the time, so it isn't exactly a huge achievement.

Other things that Badenoch failed to mention:

1) These cars are not free; a five-year lease is paid for using the benefits you qualify for.

2) An upfront deposit is required to pay for the vehicle, not funded by the taxpayer.

3) Grants may be awarded, but these are subject to strict criteria.

Kemi Badenoch was spouting blatant lies today in her speech. She said that Motability cars are being given to people with ADHD If that is the case, it is because they have a mobility condition also. You don't get given these cars if ADHD is your only disability.

All the eligibility criteria refer only to mobility-related benefit payments. Additionally, the person must have the enhanced rate, with at least twelve months remaining. Motability will not accept any other criteria other than those listed below.

Additionally, first-time buyers are exempt from stamp duty on houses with a particular value, so this policy will primarily benefit property hoarders.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
When a leader talks about ending rip-off Degrees, it is just code for Humanities Degrees.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Kemi Badenoch will try to sell her policy as a victory for young people. Still, I suspect the sole beneficiary of it will be the property hoarders like Jeremy Hunt, who conveniently forgot he owns seven houses.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Correct me if I'm wrong, but given that first-time buyers pay zero stamp duty on houses under a particular value, doesn't abolishing stamp duty amount to a tax cut for the rich?
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
That also overlooks her blatant lies regarding Motability, Net Zero, the economy, and her obsessive bashing of Rachel Reeves, Angela Rayner, and young people. If I were to describe the speech in one word, it would be 'vindictive'.
ceremonialgeek.bsky.social
Keir Starmer isn't the best orator, but Kemi Badenoch is so much worse. On the issue of unemployment, for example, the Tories have a very different message; they attack young people, whereas Labour instead speaks about providing more opportunities, such as an unemployment scheme.
