NHS substance misuse service administrator. Writing a biography of King Leopold I of the Belgians. Beautiful Surrey.
Younger colleague now knows that the shortest day of the year is in December rather than some time in the spring.

#OTD in 1865, King Leopold I of the Belgians was buried. An impressive hearse was built to carry the king’s coffin which was covered with a royal mantle, a crown and a scepter.

I think there's a difference between being influenced by say 'Allo 'Allo, Indiana Jones etc., being therefore interested in the bad guys' uniforms etc., *&* being a racist Nazi.

At least at the age of 11.

Now, at 50, I recognize the glamour of evil when I see it.

This quote by Rupert Brooke about his sexuality appears EVERYWHERE but I am struggling to pin down where he wrote it. I assume a letter but I can’t lay my hands on it in Keynes’s 1968 edition of his letters. Anyone know?

Alfred Bestall was my grandfather's cousin, I'm proud to say. (I never met him as he was very old & lived in the opposite end of the country.)

Said this before but I like how Gordon Brown's Major Interventions are all "we must improve child literacy" and Blair's are more "we must harvest the sperm for the new Super-race"
