New Year’s goals should feel like a stretch, not a hostage situation. If your plan requires a new personality, a 5am alarm, and divine intervention, it’s not a goal. It’s a fanfic.

I don't really do resolutions per se but this year I will publish two more books (that are already in edits) and draft two more for publication in 2027.

the D&D 5E Players manual (2014 edition.)
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Sure, I'll play.

I'm Chad. I write epic, emotional sci-fi and fantasy (kind of like if Sarah J Maas and Brandon Sanderson had a gay baby). I have 11 books out so far) just starting 'The Radiant Tomb,' which is the second book in my 'The Circle and the Shadow' epic fantasy series.

I see 'who will think of the straight white men?!' discourse is going around again as if most of the major authors in sff aren't still straight white men..it's tiring. your work needs to be interesting, that's it.

this was the year I realized I wasn't shouting into the void (which was good news for the void because it was super sick of hearing from me) so thanks to everyone who joined me on this journey. There's a lot more to come!

Calculus of Hope is done. Valley of Storms Paper edit officially done Vacation mode engaged (which means if I don't find fun projects to do I will start spiralling within 24 hours so I'm going to watch movies, paint minis, and sketch).

Watched #DoctorSleep today (loved it) and the whole time I was thinking 'this feels like a Mike Flanagan project' and I get to the end and the first title card is 'Written and Directed by Mike Flanagan.' and I don't know if I felt smart for figuring that out or dumb for not knowing that already.

getting back to sketching which I haven't really done since design school.. It's a relaxing way to keep myself from scrolling while I watch tv. my sketches are terrible but that's not the point. i may eventually upload some of the more promising ones to illustrator to refine them.

2025 Progress Report!

I didn't have a real word count goal for December, I just wanted to get The Calculus of Hope drafted, and I met that goal and wrote 27,611 in the process.

my goal for 2025 was to write 300,000 words and I wrote 307,611.

I watched a lot of really good movies this year (Superman, Frankenstein, Conclave, FF among others) but #WakeUpDeadMan has ended up as my absolute favorite. The best of this series by far. It was a twisty, rewarding mystery and also an astonishing meditation on faith.

2025 will go down as the year, four years into this career, that i proved to myself that, oh yeah, there are actually 'pockets of demand' for my books. When I make an effort I find an audience and they go on to read my other stuff. This is not just a vanity project, which was a relief.

76,237 words! The A/B draft if The Calculus of Hope is DONae. that's two whole novels written entirely in 2025!
