Maybe it’s time to push out an iOS 26 version of my silly little app. Not sure about how many are using it, but probably double digit percentages by now. Normally nothing to worry about, but this time I’m dropping support for older versions.
It can be fixed by setting an explicit and opaque background() that on the sidebar view. Does not fix the extra cruft to the left of the sidebar, but at least the transparency is fixed.
Why do some views cause the sidebar background to be fugly and some do not break it? The background in the first screenshot make the sidebar mostly impossible to quickly read.

Can I somehow make it be always be opaque and not randomly like now?

Liquid Glass on an iPad is pretty horrible. So many weird bugs. Such as this nicely clipped shadow. Or anything to do with a sidebar. You may or may not get a fugly mirrored background from the main view. Or a main view that does not resize when the sidebar is shown. These just in 5 mins of testing.
Tech rarely does the right thing. The bigger the tech, the more on the wrong side of history it is. This is of course a slight exaggeration, but I can’t come up with any cases where Big Tech has made anything better for the world.
Bluesky seems to sign me out all the time. I peek in here maybe once or twice a week and almost every time I've been signed out. Not an earth shattering problem, but still annoying and I maybe expected more.
Ah, had forgotten about this service. Is it still write-only or is there more interactivity here nowadays?
I wonder if Rust has a UI framework? Something like Qt, i.e. native and no JS crap. I need to write a small tool that could have a UI and it seems like a perfect reason to learn some more Rust.

#rust #ui #qt
Can you even use TabView inside a NavigationStack nowadays? Up until now you can use it, but it's buggy af and some things simply don't work. TabView is designed to be the root view of the app with NavigationStack in subviews, not the reverse. My app doesn't work with a TabView as the root.
Tomorrow will be the day that I install iOS 26 on my phone and start the required huge Liquid Glass rewrite of my app. Apparently every single part of the UI must be glass now and preferably illegible. Oh and tab views everywhere.
No, it's of course deep in my app. I worked around it by using a different type of model.
Exactly. One that would kill all current sync efforts and restart them, as they tend to just fail and sit there doing nothing. Such a button however would mean that Apple would have to admit to there being a problem, and they never admit problems. Like, absolutely never.
Apple’s photo syncing is such utter garbage. It’s now been uploading 6 photos for 15 minutes. This screenshot however synced immediately. Nothing I can do either, but kill Photos and restart, which usually works. Unreliable crap.

#apple #photos #sync #garbage
I wonder why an Observable model class in SwiftUI that contains arrays of data does not work in SwiftUI? A view renders the data in the model when shown, but mutating the arrays in the model does not trigger redraws. To me it should work out of the box. It doesn't.

Nah, I don’t want the fights and MAGA idiots either. I’m following mainly tech folks and hoped there would be discussions about tech topics like there was on Twitter back when it was good.
This is still the social site which seems to be only about posting, no real interactions. Seems even LinkedIn is more social than this place.
Doing web apps is absolute ass in my opinion. I wish there was something else software wise that would allow me to make a living without working myself to death for someone else's dreams.
I'm getting somewhat disillusioned with the mobile ecosystems. All the players are dystopian capitalist hellscapes and there's no way to make a living making software there. If you aren't a celebrity rockstar developer you have no way to get any traction nor visibility.
Any developer that has dared try the public iOS and iPadOS betas? I guess it’s time if I’m to do the total rewrite of my app before 26 launches. My app is fortunately only some 60 major screens and a few dozen major sheets, should be trivial to rethink everything for Liquid Metal.
I must have followed some starter pack with only founders and SaaS folks. It’s pretty boring with only marketing that has no discussions or interaction.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's great that people still can launch stuff. I had however hoped that BlueSky would be more discussions about tech, software, frameworks etc instead of only marketing. Like Twitter was before the nazi idiot ruined it.
I see huge amounts of marketing here compared to other social networks. Apparently the algorithm is wonky and/or the people I follow are all "indie builders" and everyone is launching new versions of everything almost every day.
To me it sounds annoying if I was instantly attacked by sales droids just because I was using a word on Slack.
There's plenty of money circulating in my niche, but my suspicion is that some of the other apps pick up all the users or that the user segment is just not using any digital aids at all. The users tend to be really old, so I guess they're not really much into apps.
