As I have posted in other replies, voters should know about these posts when making their decision. I'm glad I learned about them. I'm just saying that Mills is throwing stones by proxy and that she has done more harm during her tenure in office.

Mills keeps vetoing legislation that is bare minimum decency for native tribes, she is hostile to the state public defender offices because she is a prosecutor at heart, and she is anti-farm-worker-rights
Governor Mills Continues Her Oppression of the Tribes in Maine
Gov. Janet Mills vetoed LD 2004, a bipartisan bill that would allow Maine tribes to access some federally beneficial Indian laws. Read our statement.

The posts are not good, but I think the replies here give good context for why we shouldn't assume this is a Fetterman situation. Also, this stuff is clearly being pushed by interests aligned with the Janet Mills campain, and Mills has done worse while in office than Platner has posted on Reddit

A primary way their empathy suppression works is by "othering" whole groups of people- it's a get out of jail free card for feeling empathy for that group. It allows them to feel unconflicted joy in dominating others. We are in a power struggle against this unified movement.
So that's what I would say we should be fighting against, and that's why it should absolutely not be framed as reconnecting Republicans with their abstract ideals. It's a power struggle above everything else.
But way too many people take pleasure in having power over others, and this conflicts with empathy and so they ignore or suppress their empathy. We are talking about a whole political movement that enjoys having power over others to such an extent that they claim empathy is a moral failing.
I do not believe humans have some inherent calling to these abstract ideals; it's just that as a thinking and feeling human being, it's hard to avoid the inference that other humans are thinking and feeling in the same way and should be treated as such. It's just empathy that we should expect.
every day we get great new black metal that is not goosestepping fascist bullshit... if this author was only in it for the vibes and she was only drawn to the fascist black metal, then fascism was the vibe she was going for

One of the albums I’ve had on heavy rotation lately. Excellent Hellenic black metal style album, courtesy of Phil Tougas of Chthe'ilist, Worm. Quite technical and heavy on power/thrash riffing, without sacrificing atmosphere. Also, antifascist lyrics

yup, but there's still a chance at the local level to apply that power for good- as an indigent defense/eviction defense/child welfare attorney, just showing up in court for a client is a surprisingly effective fuck you to entrenched power. Does not scale nationally, however
I wish I could articualte this better and if anyone has written a book on this topic I would love to read it
I think you're right about abundance and boredom in the 90s, and I think it also has something to do with the hypercapitalist destruction of traditional kinds of community support and resulting solipsism
I think you're right about all this, but I also think there's a mode of conspiracy thinking that could exist as a harmless hobby and was not necessarily destined to develop this way. I think it was coopted to punch down instead of up and destroy empathy for other humans
"what you got wrong is that I, a reactionary, am actually a special boy"
Leftists are the real reactionaries because their school of thought wants to "wind back church dogma?" wtf is he talking about

Also thinks you paint reactionaries with too broad a brush because some of them just want to roll things back to 2023? That's what the eugenicist right is asking for?
