Intrigued by the evolving scientific view of resilience in Psychology Today, as not just individual toughness, but the systems around us. Striking how much this echoes Indigenous knowledge that’s long recognised the collective elements of resilience. Relevant for teacher wellbeing🌿Link below

Refugee Education in a Time of Heartbreak and Failure.

Our BERA keynote is now advertised on Ashlaa - the scattered human and language remains in the rubble - looking at Eritrea,Palestine, UK and beyond with @khawlabadwan.bsky.social @hyabyohannes.bsky.social @uofgsocsci.bsky.social
Out of the Ashlaa': Refugee Language Education in Times of Heartbreak and Failure
Wednesday 10 September 2025 14:30-16:00
Alison Phipps, Khawla Badwan, Hyab Yohannes
This keynote explores what responsible educational research and teaching look like in times of profound crisis, particularly in the face of war, displacement, and structural violence. Drawing from 15 years of work in language education with displaced and besieged communities- including Gaza, Eritrea, and other conflict zones— the presentation introduces a pedagogy of heartbreak. It reflects on the failure of language, education systems, and peace-building frameworks in the face of genocide, trafficking, and scholasticide.
