ramble about the toheart remake and the function of visual novel cgs

toheart remake really hammers home why visual novels are "that way"
cgs serve as a punctuation to emotional moments, a kind of reward
for engaging with the story up to that point. the change in
presentation makes them distinct from the rest of the game so you
know something REALLY IMPORTANT is occuring. it looks like the toheart
remake is smoothing over those scenes in favor of interactable segments,
but that means that it will be (at least partially) indistinguishable
from the rest of the game.
excuse me for being pedantic but i liken visual novel cgs to an impressionist
paintings: they are meant to capture the emotion/human perspective of the
moment rather than the realism of it. the angles and lighting of the og cgs
may be unrealistic to an extent but to the player thats how it *feels* to
be in the moment. cgs capture the heightened emotions which is very important
to a game about having relationships with 2d characters.(；′⌒`)

i could rant about adv vs nvl too but thats whatever hahaha

Just as a reminder, machine learning and neural networks are genuinely useful computer science tools and it's the "generative" in "generative AI" that is specifically the "we used all the content in the world without permission to mass produce slop" part that you should take issue with

someone on twt pointed out how the strings of toya's violin are vbs colored
