Someone asked what I was reading - it was a collection of folktales from the tribes of the region. They then told me about how they were reading the VP's autobiography. I was amused that we were both reading myths our respective peoples but I didn't tell them that.

Why people gotta make things hard? Can't you see I'm just a little frog? A little frog who just successfully submitted a departmental budget and rules revision based on changes to federal policy? Being punished for my good job with more work when I just want to have a cookie and nap.

Today is going to be a pretty good day. Today, I am going to be satisfied with imperfection and not beat myself up because I haven't had the time and energy to do more. I've had a rough time recently and I'm still finding my center.

Holidays are over, and now everyone who took one or two weeks off will be back and in a rush, and trying to make those of us that stuck around be on their catch-up timeline. I just want to do my regular steady pace today, not react to their panic.

Now is that weird time when everything is still kind of holiday-ish but not quite. No more anticipation of a day off or another party. Kind of burnt out but still left wanting more. But more what? I don't have a good answer. Not looking forward to work tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I did to earn this. Ok, we did about four hours of driving yesterday, but I wasn't aching until it woke me up in the wee morning hours. And I was good and went to bed on time. Not fair! It is a heating pad morning.

I'm awake. Stayed up late to hear some of the neighbors lighting fireworks and firing their guns, but went to bed shortly after. So far this year I have taken a long, relaxing shower, and I'm now drinking some coffee. Off to a good start. We might drive down into town for Chinese later. #frogposting

I took today off because I deserve it, and who wants to work just on Friday after having Thursday off? I'm going to do some more sorting of papers and such from my father's stuff, so it'll be productive.
