Hahah picots are little nubbins like in the picture. I opted not to do them and do granny rows until I run out of yarn because it's a more efficient use of the whole cake.

The picture is exactly how this shawl would have ended if I went in the direction I described in the original post.

Here's one I did that was heavy on the virus stitches.

No pattern, but I'm sure you could find some arrangement of these stitches in a written pattern. It's a mix of granny stitch and virus stitch.

or make up your own with this formula:
4 x granny rows to
any number of complete virus rows (4 rows each)

For what it's worth - all of the #crochet you see me posting is freehand - no pattern unless otherwise stated. The wing looking shawls are heavily influenced by Lorraine Pughs Ultimate Sacrifice shawl but I just *winged* 😂 the pattern from sight. They are all different shapes. 🧶
