This woodcut portrait of Chinese writer Lu Xun by Li Yitai from 1974 is one of my all time favourites.

The balance of the piece is mind-blowing, especially the restrained use of detail.

But the real kicker is the intentionally under-inked smoke, fading into the void...

My husband (Tyler Stockdale, he’s an amazing designer!) and I collaborated on this sign and I’m obsessed. I painted the kitty face and Tyler did the typography, flowers, and overall layout. I love it. Now I want to make a million signs together. Tyler also built the catio that our cats love. #art

Classes are starting on my campus this week. Things have been a bit hectic between trainings, class prep, and getting the studio ready for students. I made this little painting yesterday. Painting settles me. Even when my to-do list is crazy, I have to take little moments to unwind. #art #gouache
