I agree. The main problem is that whoever wrote the mandatory minimum sentencing laws didn't take into account our Charter.

Unfortunately there is very little legal media literacy in Canada, and people will focus on the right-wing spin of "SC allows only wrist-slaps for pedos" knee-jerk reaction.

I really wish Canadians would stop focusing so much on American politics and instead look at how close Canada is to electing right-wing governments that will privatize the shit out of anything the first chance they can. We're horrendously close to losing things like affordable healthcare. #cdnpoli

Do people in Canada know how much it costs to house one inmate in jail? According to www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/t... (from the average daily inmate cost for 2022/23), it's $118,990 per year.

For those who want to build more jails and put more criminals into them: who's going to pay for that?

I wouldn't mind Google/Android moving (away from buttons) to gesture navigation so much if it weren't such a nightmarishly disjointed mess. Different apps use different gestures (and some don't make use of the system-level ones). Almost makes me want to get an iPhone
